Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu to be indicted on corruption charges

(CNN) Jerusalem - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be charged with bribery, fraud and breach of trust arising from three separate corruption investigations, pending a hearing, according to a source with direct knowledge of the decision by Israel's attorney general, in a major blow to Netanyahu as he seeks a fifth term in office.

Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit's intention to indict the Prime Minister so close to April's general election marks a dramatic moment in Israeli politics.
Netanyahu's opponents will likely look to exploit a heightened sense of damage to the Prime Minister's reputation, while his coalition partners must now decide whether to support a leader who looks set to be indicted, or withdraw their support and risk alienating their shared right-wing voter base.

I really hope this is the beginning of Bibi,who has been a disaster for Israel.
He has managed to alienate a good deal of the American Jewish Community .a remarkable acheivment for an Israeli PM.
 
And I have always despised Netheyanu for his endless explotation of his dead brother, a genuine Israeli hero.
He was killed leading the Entebbe raid.
 
Now it's getting interesting:Gal Gadot, probably the best know Israeli ,just blasted Bibi for his comments about Arab Israeli Citizens.

Never a dull moment indeed. My opinion is that Israel’s biggest problem is the silly electoral system where citizens can only vote for parties and parties provide a list of who gets in. Theoretically a strong party could get a chimpanzee in. We have the same system in our upper house (senate) and it leads to some real clowns getting elected.

The biggest plus is the Israeli Judiciary which I have always thought is independent competent and moral.
 
At this point you have to wonder if Bibi will come under pressure from within Likud to step down as PM. He has got to be seen as damaged goods.
He may soon join May in the "PM's forced out because they could not get a deal" club.

As a party member, I can tell you that there are a lot of talks on it, but nobody is doing anything about it yet (except our faction within the party, but we are a minority)

It's kind of a big game of chicken. Everyone realize he is a problem, but nobody wants to be with the blame of getting rid of him if it'll back fire.



His legal issues have been postponed until October. The elections are in September. If he can't make it this time, he's definitly getting the boot.

Possibly before that, but very unlikely.

Has he even tried negotiating with prosecutors?

No.

(Sorry in advance, English is not my native language. I might get some terms incorrectly)

Currently, the prosectuer provided a recommendation to put him to trial.
The next step is that he'll have a hearing to try and explain his side of things.

After said hearing, they will decide whether to official indite him or not.

So technically, there is no point in making a deal when there aren't any official charges yet.

Possible for sure, but unlikely.

He currently led us to re-election solely because he couldn't get a coaltion that would support his attempt to find a legal assylum and prevent his prosecution.

He is aware that the odds of him wiggling out of the situation is slim.
