Ed Israel/US Attacks Iran /Yet Another Country/Iran

Karoline Leavitt
@PressSec
The U.S. military is decimating the terrorist Iranian regime:
So far, we’ve struck over 8,000 military targets, including 130 Iranian vessels – constituting the largest elimination of a navy over a three-week period since World War II.
So they are destroying one target in ten?

In that 8,000 targets was it counted as 1 school or 170 attack school girls?

People owe Trump and Ratcliffe apologies.

Basically Iran had missiles capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to every major European city.

Influencers may have been willing to role that dice but Trump wasn’t.

I'm going to suggest that 'neither hit the base' might be more significant than this ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ genius realises. Just because I can 'launch' a golf ball off the tee doesn't mean I can do a round in 18 shots.

the threat of imprisonment probably didn't lighten the mood much
So you think fighting Nazi Germany and Militairst Japan was wrong?
The draft in the US in World War 2 was necessary, if for no other reason then stragining out the manpower situation.
The Navy and the Air Force were getting top many of the quality recruites, and the Army was suffering. The draft evened that out.

I would bet a good size sum that we will have a land war. Trump's ego is too much involved with "winning" the war with Iran.
No good ending to this; Iran may emerge more powerful then ever which means simply more trouble down the line.
Some people here seem to be cheering for a Iranian victory simply because it would humiliate Trump; IMHO that is incredibly short sighted.
Best alternative is stalemate. thing go back as they were before.

any escalation of violence is bad because it will involve more people being killed, injured and infrastructure damaged.

I think sanctions are in many cases counter-productive. An unsanctioned affluent Iran would likely have moved in a more liberal direction*, I think an unsanctioned Cuba would certainly have moved to being a social democracy.

*Cf Saudi which is more restrictive than Iran but is liberalising without sanctions.

What does an Iranian victory look like?

Tel Aviv and Washington's unconditional surrender? Bibi and Trump executed?

Please explain.
Iranian victory is Iran surviving as a country and not being divided up like Yugoslavia, or even to an extent Iran. Even more so if the current regime remain in power.

\What did a Vietnamese victory look like, or a Cambodian one, or going back a Canadian one?

If the current regime falls, that's a win for the US. We don't need Iranian territory to fragment.

And the current regime remaining in power is only a victory for the current regime. It's not a victory for the Iranian people.

This is delusional. It never actually works. We thought that would happen with China, for example. It did not.

Saudi Arabia is liberalizing because that's what its leadership decided to do. Iran's leadership has no interest in liberalizing. Sanction relief wouldn't change their minds.

How did that go in Afghanistan? Are you still winning there?
The Taliban were driven out by our invasion, back to Pakistan, but they were never really defeated and we did not pursue them (how'd that work out for Pakistan?).

I don't think the mullahs of Iran really have anywhere to retreat to. And if they fall, the people of Iran will put the nail in their coffin, not us. Iran is not Afghanistan.

His latest threat against Iran's biggest power plant, with a two-day ultimatum (not "Two Weeks"?) is a big deal. If it goes through, I believe it will definitely be a war crime as described in a post I saw. Oh, to see him on trial on the world stage! (But that would mean thousands of civilians affected or killed, so I'm not hoping for it.)

It suited the US to be rhe dominant partner in NATO.
The vast majority of countries don't have anything more than defensive forces
Why should European countries be any different?
It still does. The maing purposes of NATO have always been 1) allow the US to project its military power at a far greater distance than would be allowed if it had no oreign bases and 2) keep Europe militarily dependent on and subservient to the US.
