'...Israel is postponing "strategic dialogue" with Britain over defence and security issues, an Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman has said.

The move is a protest over attempts to use British law to prosecute visiting Israeli officials, the spokesman added. ...'

From http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11681989

The report goes on to say
'...An arrest warrant was issued through UK courts for Israeli former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni in December last year. The warrant was granted by a London court at the request of Palestinian plaintiffs, provoking Israeli anger.

It was revoked when it was found Ms Livni was not visiting the UK. ...'

and

'...Earlier this week it was reported that Israel's Intelligence Minister, Dan Meridor, cancelled a trip to Britain amid concerns that he risked being arrested on war crimes charges. ...'

If they have nothing to fear why do so many members of the Israeli government and the IDF react in this way - effectively running away?

Bizarrely I agree with the Israeli government on one thing. Why should the UK even want a dialog with the Israelis - about anything - ever? Why should the people of the UK want to talk to a government that has shown itself to be an enemy of the decent values and respect for the law and human rights that the people of the UK hold dear? Why would we want worthless information obtained by torture? Why would we ever want to talk to a government actively engaged in human rights abuses at any level above that which we currently adopt with other pariah states?

The people of the UK simply will not allow the law to be changed in favour of apartheid governments containing many human rights abusers, especially governments which currently collectively punish entire groups of people in ongoing crimes against humanity.

While they are not prepared to stand up in court and defend their abuses of human rights, every Israeli government minister should continue to stay away from the UK.

wait...so now you WANT Israel and the UK to coordinate defense & security strategies?

The ability to harass people with lawsuits is not what I would call a value.

By the way, it seems that the UK government agrees and is going to amend the law.

Is that law even workable?

If a Kurd living in the UK, files complaints against a Turkish (ex-) minister, do they now have to act on that?

Considering the UK's immigrant population no representative of any state with border disputes etc. could ever visit the UK.

Imagine Putin going to a Man united game and the Brits having to arrest him.
That would be a bit of a mess.

No, don't worry. They only use it on Jews.

So let's see. Britain will let angry Iranians murder a police woman and let them go free because they have diplomatic immunity.

But they're ready to ignore that and arrest non-angry, non-murdering-police-women Israelis in spite of diplomatic immunity.

You are a proud, proud people.

I'm British, more specifically, English.
Do you really think that a judgement made by a London court is indicative of how proud or not I am?
It may suprise you to learn that the vast, vast majority of British citizens would like to have seen the murderer(s) of the police woman that you refer to, hung from a Lampost.

I would make the assumption that when Beerina referred to Britian,
Edited by Gaspode:
Removed breach of Rule 12
, he was referring to the British government and not its citizens.

I would have had the post been one sentence shorter.

Are you actually thinking of the murder of Yvonne Fletcher by someone in the Libyan Embassy?
