Is there a point to all this "Israel vs Palestine" bickering?

as long as my money is going to pay for illegal settlements, I care.

as long as the USA is giving Israel unwavering support, and Israel in return engages in behavior that enrages 1.3 billion Muslims, I care.

Americans pay the price for Israeli crimes...in blood.

Whatever the amount to Gaza, it' s money thrown down a rat hole, whereas, the Israelis have used their aid constructively to turn a desolate, malaria-ridden swamp into one of the most advanced and sophsticated nations on the planet. When Warren Buffett paid $4 billion recently for an 80% investment in Israeli-based Iscar Corp, he visited Israel and he exclaimed how impressed he is with the level of Israel's industrial and economic development, adding how amazed he is that it's all been accomplished in 60 years. I think this says it all.

It says to me he's a capitalist who's happy to buy-in to the US support/endorsement of an ethically dubious state. I suppose he's just as impressed with China's development, while also ignoring human-rights issues.

But yeah, it's amazing that a nation of 7 million people that's received $100billion, and tech help, and political/economic cover, over 60 years is prosperous.

The goal of these Israel vs. Palestine threads? I cannot think of one.

Using your template--To determine if the Occupied Territories should be a free and independent state.

But as others have said, more a place to vent frustration. And people on all sides are frustrated, I guess the only folks who aren't are those who want the current status quo to last forever. It's too bad that at the moment that seems to include Israel, Hamas/Fatah, and the US.

Yeah right  $30 billion of Military aid over 10 years is $3 billion a year.

might help -- http://www.filomaths.com/

No, Tim. $30B over 10 years is an average of $3B per year. And that average you quoted was over 10 years, estimated, 2008-2017. 2001-2007 military aid to Israel was indeed $2B-$3B.

What a comparison of $0.9 Billion humanitarian aid to the Palestinians to rebuild Gaza to the $30 BILLION earmarked to Israel so they can continue to kill Palestinians.

U.S. Palestinian aid pledge dwarfed by aid to Israel

You are fooling NO ONE mortimer.
Considering Gaza's elected government is an internationally recognized terrorist organization, they're lucky they get any money from the U.S. The Palestinians also get billions in aid through the U.N. and the Palestinian Reform and Development Program, to the tune of $2B-$3B a year from 2008-2010. The U.S. contributes about 22% of the former's budget, and is also a major source of funds for the latter.

Talk about not fooling anyone. You are trying to compare a one time U.S. aid offer to the Palestinians of $900M (on top of other funding the U.S. participates in) to a 10 year military aid package.

Israel uses its aid to build illegal settlements in the West Bank.

No it doesn't. Nor did it ever, as it was not allowed to do so. U.S. aid is now almost entirely military aid, anyway, so you needn't worry about that.

So basically the money given to help Israel kill Palestinians is much much more than the money given to help the Palestinians that are lucky enough not to be killed.

Apart from 2006 where the US aid to the West Bank Gaza was $150 Million it was around $74 million.

A lot lot less than even $2 to $3 Billion huh? only about 2.5% in fact. A pittance in comparison

Israel is by far the biggest recipient of US aid. Of course that is not surprising considering that for many Israel is the 1st state of the US.

Worldwide foreign aid to Palestinians was about $1.2B in 2006. I can't find more recent figures than that. U.S. aid to Israel is about $3B. I can't find note of any substantial aid to Israel from any other country. Considering their respective populations, I don't see that the aid per-capita is much different between the occupied territories and Israel. Of course, population shouldn't be the only, or even the main, factor in determining aid levels. But don't pretend that the Palestinians don't get much aid, because they do, just not from the U.S. directly.

As noted earlier, the Palestinians do get a large amount of U.S. aid indirectly through the U.N. and other organizations.

Israel did not receive more military or economic aid on average than any of the major Arab states, whether from the U.S. or in the case of certain Arab states from the U.S.S.R., until about the mid 70's when U.S. strategy shifted towards making sure Israel had a decided military edge over its neighbors. In terms of stabilizing the region this was sound geopolitical strategy and it has worked well. It is not now as important as it was 20 years ago or even 10 years ago, as Israel now maintains a stable peace with those states which would pose the greatest threat to stability in the region. U.S. foreign aid to Israel, while remaining significant, is likely to decrease gradually over the coming years, and I think it will increasingly be used to put pressure on Israel to solve the Palestinian situation.

Intel has a chip plant in Kiryat Gat, which is located on the site of the former Arab village 'Iraq al-Manshiyya. The ca. 2000 villagers were expelled by the IDF after the armistice agreement, and the village razed to the ground.

boycott page
Benny Morris' account on the village

After reading that, I made a conscious decision to buy an AMD processor.

Benny Morris has expressed his regret that Israel-bashers often quote him for their own propaganda purposes because of his own Jewish heritage and his past anti-Zionist/anti-Israel views. Morris is more an idealogue than a credible historian, so, I'd be careful using him as a source of accurate informaton.

Prospective Palestinian suicide bombers and car bombers are also "lucky enough" not to be killed, not due to their own interest in living, but, due to enhanced Israeli security measures, although, on a negative note, it means they have to figure out alternate methods for getting with those 72 virgins.

Standard anti-Israel rhetoric is it's the 51st state.

While the Arab states have made multiples of that amount not by developing an expansive industrial base, as Israel has done, but, merely by selling oil extracted from the ground by Western nations, then proceeding to hold those Western states hostage with their control of oil and gas prices, and, still, camels are a primary mode of transportation.
