Is there a point to all this "Israel vs Palestine" bickering?

If the united states wasn't a slave to the state of Israel and willing to kiss her toes no matter what she does, I wouldn't care so much. If I was a canadian, I wouldn't care so much. But MY tax dollars go to a country that I disagree with on almost every issue. The country is racist, it is warmongering. And it impedes the progress of MY country. IF we weren't giving it and it's appeasers billions of dollars a year, we would probably have universal health care, better schools etc. etc. Israel would suffer a major humble defeat and the apartheid and hate would end. The USA is HEAVILY responsible for the problem persisting. I say boycott Israel just like we did with South Africa. They do nothing for us in return.

You are more then welcome to boycott all products made in the State of Israel. BTW, your computer's processor was most likely built in Israel.

I guess this is...goodbye?

Yeah right. I highly doubt that. But, if I want some ecstasy or some uzis, china and Israel would be your best bet.

I'm sure you have seen these videos many times.

I know I've learned quite a bit about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from these threads. Isn't that the point of JREF and the Forums?

What he said :)

I knew nothing about this conflict before Cast Lead was launched and i quite enjoyed listening to the experts discuss this topic while I quietly played along with the home version of the game.

If I happened on a thread that was happening in real time, so to speak, it gave me an opportunity to do my own research to try and predict what responses to points made might be. Or, if I entered a thread late in the game, then voila !! most of my research was done for me.

I'm still working on the PCE thing, I have no emotional stake in this conflict.

I quite like learning about topics in this forum format, and the "bickering" , I realise, just comes with the territory.

You really think that $2B-$3B a year that Israel gets in aid per year is holding us back from universal healthcare and better schools and etc etc?

Well it is certainly throwing money down the toilet that could be going towards our schools and technology etc.

Not just israel but we have to bribe countries like egypt and jordan billions of dollars a year so they will continue to be the dictatorships and monarchy's we need.

Because if you think about it, if egypt became a free and prosperous country with free everything and the people got into political issues a la george clooney, it would be lights out for Israel like THAT!

Well said Stout!!!

They're not neo-nazi vids.

I am not a national socialist. I hate fascism. So there is no way I can be a nazi.

Besides those youtube clips are from fox news. not from david duke.

you support anti-Semitism. that makes you a Nazi in my eyes.

oh...right..sorry. I mean't "Judeophobia".

Intel has a chip plant in Kiryat Gat, which is located on the site of the former Arab village 'Iraq al-Manshiyya. The ca. 2000 villagers were expelled by the IDF after the armistice agreement, and the village razed to the ground.

boycott page
Benny Morris' account on the village

After reading that, I made a conscious decision to buy an AMD processor.

I think Oliver's point is that the main complaint made in the OP is equally true of a multitude of other topics discussed in these forums. There are countless topics that continue in an endless back and forward.

Why did the OP choose to focus on Palestine/Israel?

Bickering is fine, as long as it tends towards some sort of point (hence the thread's title).

Take gun control debates, for instance. They're just as heated and full of anger as these Israel vs Palestine debates. The difference is that the gun control debates have a clear, ultimate goal: to determine which set of policies will save the most lives.

I guess what I'm asking (and perhaps I didn't make it clear enough), is: what is the goal of all these Israel vs Palestine threads?

The goal of the gun control threads is to determine policies that will save the most lives.

The goal of global warming debates is to determine the cause of global warming, as only when the cause of global warming is known can it be prevented.

The goal of 9/11 CT debates is to determine if a new independent investigation is needed and, if so, what issues the investigation should deal with.

The goal of these Israel vs. Palestine threads? I cannot think of one.

My apologies for taking so long to get back to this thread.

Well, 1337m4n, this thread pretty much illustrates your point, doesn't it?

You have to give credit to geni. He was polite, answered most of the questions as directly as he could, and avoided senseless bickering.

I wish others would follow suit.

Why did you say 2 to 3 billion? It's THREE Billion.

And it's 3 billion too much.
So I'm right and you are complaining? You realize that the number changes from year to year. Most years it is between 2 and 3 billion.

What do you think of the billions in aid that the United States has given Palestinians?

Can't we all just get along?

No? Oh, in that case go back to arguing. I'm sure it will get settled.................................................................................soon.

Yeah right  $30 billion of Military aid over 10 years is $3 billion a year.

might help -- http://www.filomaths.com/

What a comparison of $0.9 Billion humanitarian aid to the Palestinians to rebuild Gaza to the $30 BILLION earmarked to Israel so they can continue to kill Palestinians.

U.S. Palestinian aid pledge dwarfed by aid to Israel

You are fooling NO ONE mortimer.

Whatever the amount to Gaza, it' s money thrown down a rat hole, whereas, the Israelis have used their aid constructively to turn a desolate, malaria-ridden swamp into one of the most advanced and sophsticated nations on the planet. When Warren Buffett paid $4 billion recently for an 80% investment in Israeli-based Iscar Corp, he visited Israel and he exclaimed how impressed he is with the level of Israel's industrial and economic development, adding how amazed he is that it's all been accomplished in 60 years. I think this says it all.

Israel uses its aid to build illegal settlements in the West Bank.

1) Who gives a damn?
2) Who gives a damn?

You've managed to succinctly boil the entire Israeli-Arab conflict down to its simplist and most basic elements. Although I'm congenitally disputatious, the reality is that whatever events transpired in the past are in the past and it doesn't move the needle ahead on the most critical issue at hand, which is establishing peace in the Middle East. Not even Jew and Arab, and Arab and Arab, blowing kisses at each other, but, just being able to live with each other and everyone and their families having peaceful, happy, prosperous lives. That's really what matters and what is worth "giving a damn" about. Maybe one day.
