• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Is there a double standard?

HMMM, lets see shall we.

Trent Lott says that the world would be a better place if a known souther segregationist had been elected president. And he was what, Speaker of the House? (I only remember that sleaze bag Tipster.)

And now e have some little bitty Representative, speaking at a Hispanic forum and she says...

She said Republican leaders were "racist" in their policies toward the Caribbean nation, which is almost entirely black, and called the president's representatives "a bunch of white men."

Well lets see...

Cuba....hispanic , sort of white looking... any refugee coming from this island, okay!

Haiti ... very black , the land of VooDoo and all that mumbo jumbo... and we return any one coming from that island...

(Maybe the best thing for Haiti would be to be over run by the Pinkos so they can get a free pass as well!)

Sorta looks Racist , it may not be but it sure could look that way, sort of reminiscent of the old immigration policies of our government.

And the press did not cover this little voice in the HoR making this statement. Seems I heard it on NPR and read it on Yahoo the day it happened.

Well Gee Whilikers, Thanks For Opening My Eyes, I guess there is some sort of Liberal Conspiracy in the Media.

(Yeah, like they aren't all too busy reporting on the history of the BIble right now!)

PS Welcome to the forum, the natives are friendly but the trolls are big and fierce.

Dancing David - Thanks for the welcome and the warning about the trolls!

That is not what Lott said. You may interpret what he actually said any way you like but unless you are claiming that you can read minds your interpretation is no more correct than anyone else's. Nice try.

If you would actually read the article you might comprehend that it says that it was a "briefing on Haiti" not a Hispanic forum as you incorrectly describe it.

"little bitty" :)

I am not arguing the validity of Rep. Brown's comments. I am suggesting that if the roles would have been reversed and Rep. Bonilla (or any other Republican for that matter) told someone of a minority race "you all look alike to me", it would have been all over the news just like Lotts comments were. Maybe I am wrong, but that is why I asked the questions in my original post, for feedback and discussion not a smart-assed, ideologically driven diatribe.

Well maybe you did and maybe you didn't. I couldn't find it anywhere on Yahoo, I didn't hear it on NPR or see it on any of the big media outlets. Please, show me a couple of links from major news locations and I will have the answers to my questions. Thanks.

I think it's probably because Lott was a powerful figure in Washington. Not only was he a senator, he was the majority leader.
Also, when Hillary made that Gandhi joke, alot of people got mad at her, as well, and she also had to apologize. Therefore, I don't think that one party is any more scrutinized than the other.

Of course no one has asked Clinton or Brown to step down, which is the commen response if the proverbial shoe is on the other foot.

clk - I agree that the more powerful or influential people will have their words more scrutinized. However, "you all look alike to me" is a racial epithet. I think that the way it was blatantly used in a congressional briefing would have attracted much more media attention. It didn't. That made me wonder why. I would think it would make much bigger news. That's just my opinion and apparently I was wrong.

I agree. I think that the comments should be scrutinized more (assuming that the article from fox news is accurate). I don't know why it didn't get much media attention, especially since the news has been kind of slow lately. I'm surprised they didn't jump all over that quote. That's just how the media is, sometimes.
