Is Mittens now unstoppable?

If Bachman or Santorum posted here, than it would be in poor form for a mod to call them such to their faces. As it is, we're just pointing out a fact.

You can't compare Rick Santorum with Ron Paul, though. IMHO

My memory (and thus a wholly crappy resource) is that turnout in the primaries so far has been below 2008 turnout. If that is right, your hunch is probably on the money.

I heard this, I think, on NPR recently, though I cannot be sure of that. Does anyone have a definitive source on this claim? If it's true, I think the Republicans are in deep trouble for the presidential race.
Not definitive, but reliable:

Summary: Turnout was up slightly in Iowa and New Hampshire, up big in South Carolina, and down in Florida. On the other hand, the increased turnout in Iowa and New Hampshire was attributable to independents and Democrats, who had no competitive Democratic presidential primary in which to participate. If you look only at those who identified themselves as Republicans, turnout was down in Iowa and New Hampshire as well as in Florida.

I don't know about that.
If the Mormon in question wasn't a smarmy upper-crust twit, he might just have a chance.

I recently saw a political cartoon that asserted "He couldn't be less believable as an "average Joe" American if he put on a monocle and top hat."(IIRC)

I think that depends on how both campaigns are run. There's a lot of blind rage about the economy out there that Romney could tap into if he plays his cards right. Republicans are good at that.
But I do still think Obama will win. A blank milquetoast like Romney isn't really defeat-the-presidential-incumbent material.

Good post, well-said. Hilited portion goes right to my deepest fear.

I don't think the voters are quite so willing to trust the GOP this time. If they had a better candidate I'd be quite fearful.

You're right. Ron Paul has been doing the loony thing for decades, Santorum's a relative neophyte. Plus for all Santorum nutjob views, I don't believe he's ever endorsed a white supremacist for president.

I think the IRS should audit the hell out of Romney. I'm betting they find some colorable tax fraud if they dig.

Then you can turn the rage onto Romney; "He wants to tell YOU to pay your taxes, but HE didn't!!!! He cheated."

Oh look, opinions are facts now.

Is there a rational reason to support either Santorum or Bachmann?

eta: sorry, that should have been "Santorum or Paul" and I think there are valid, rational reasons to support Paul. I don't agree with them, necessarily, but they do exist.

Noooooo. Any audit would be met with a HUGE backlash against Obama for using official government offices to help his re-election campaign. Far better would be pressure to force Romney to release more of his returns because if they show an even lower (even zero) payment rate, Romney gets a lot of heat.

We'll never elect a Mormon as POTUS, at least not this go-round. I may have been scared off solid political bets but I'd put small money on this.

It has nothing to do with 'Mormon'.

Heck, Richard Milhous Nixon was a 'Friend'. ;)

It has everything to do with sense and sensibility, both of which are sadly lacking in any viable Republican candidate, IMHO.

Thanks WD. Yup, looks like trouble for Mittens.

Just wait until April approaches. I am willing to bet a large stack of money that this comes up again to bite Romney in the ass. There's no escaping it. And that will hurt him and keep on hurting him.

Here's one variation: Why won't Romney release his taxes from his years at Bain Capital?

Count on it.
