Is Marijuana Harmless?

well said, Georg

obscure 70's joke:

I'm with you all the way; just across the bay.

and wondering what others will say.

Google: National Lampoon Lemmings "just across the bay" or something like that and see what you come up with.

I don't know if you think Joan Baez is sort of funny all by herself, but try singing the song in that manner. Or in the manner of A Mighty Wind.

:D

to spoil the joke:

it's about puffing yourself up as someone who is a committed radical, when in fact, you are sitting back and watching others do the dirty work for you...

hm. Georg isn't laughing. I see that the joke could appear to have the opposite effect of what I intended: The joke was on me.

...

I think it has more to do with punishing the black man than anything.

I just wanted this point not to get lost in the sparkle of witty conversation around here.

Thank you DD.

To add to your perfectly reasonable and absolutely correct idea a slightly paranoid Nietzschian twist:

It's also about other segments of the lower classes being able to exercise their cruelty and make a living off having an ever lower class: the convicted drug offender...

But ignore that. The main point was DD's.

I wasn´t laughing because I just read your answer. Except for the weekends, I only have time to use the net while I´m at work. You know, family and all…..
And since you wrote that my comment was “well said”, and I interpret that as agreement, I see no reason why the joke is on you.
As for DDs comment with the black men: That may be one reason, but there are others as well. For example the economical interest when inventing artificial fibers….., but that would probably be better discussed in the CT section of the forum.
While it´s nice to have agreement from you, I was hoping others with different points of view would chime in, because it looks like there is not a lot to discuss between us.
We´ll see…….

Bah. No one ever gets high on drugs. It's all placebo effect. Because I said so. I secretly replaced every gram of coke in South Florida with powdered 100% pure Juan Valdez Columbian, and everyone still claimed that they 'got high'. Placebo. It's true because I did it and I said it's true.

Prove me wrong.

:p
I didn't get high off it.

Proven Wrong!!!

Although the review was unable to prove causality in the association between cannabis use and psychosis, the results do provide policymakers with information to advise the public about the risks of a widely used drug, the authors concluded.

Although the ultimate proof of a causal relationship between cannabis and psychosis would be a large-scale placebo-controlled randomized trial, they said, such a trial cannot be done "because of practical and ethical reasons."

And yeah, don't get me started on the fact that people on it regularly are very annoying too:

Patients are left with the well-recognised and permanent symptoms of memory loss, apathy, loss of motivation and, paranoid ideation. These symptoms known as “ the Amotivational Syndrome” in the past are usually permanent.
If Cannabis using resumes then the acute symptoms redevelop.

The chronic state can also be arrived at without a preceding psychotic episode. After Cannabis started to be widely used about 20 years ago, for permanent damage to occur it was felt by some that Cannabis had to be heavily used over at least three years .

However, there is accumulating evidence that smaller amount will do damage also and in animals “ deficits on tasks dependent on frontal lobe function have been reported in cannabis users” .

It is very difficult to conduct research in this area, as it is not acceptable to harm humans by doing trials with damaging substances such as Cannabis. However there is accumulating evidence of the psychological consequences of using Cannabis [8]. It is logical that to get the permanent “ Amotivational Syndrome” small amounts to damage have to accumulate incrementally.

Marijuana is harmless. It is all a conspiracy by The Man to keep people down. I read about it in High Times, in between the centerfold of a gorgeous bud and the article on drinking cough syrup while standing on your head to get high.

Are left with, or had to start with? Apathy, loss of motivation, paranoia and several other symptoms are all things likely to make people want to smoke weed in the first place. Are there any studies that show actual causation and not just correlation (and not especially strong correlation from what I have rad)?

Marijuana is probably not completely harmless.

Question with regards to regulation should be wether or not it's safer than let's say white sugar.

Are the problems with marijuana that more serious and prevalent than type 2 diabetes in sugar users?
