Whether there's any mechanism or not (and there probably is) it's easy to find examples of animals working to benefit other animals which are not kin.

Not really. I posed a hypothetical question to the hypothetical post I quoted. I want to see how dog worship the poster possesses.
 
On second thought, how about if Piggy and his dog are at the zoo and his pooch accidentally falls into the African painted dog enclosure, taking a toddler in with it.
 
Nope. IMHO most people are worth much less.

My sister > your sister, by the same reasoning. I think there are obviously levels at which we think this is true at times, but I think also that most of us realise the incorrectness of such a statement.

To each individual, man or beast, their own life is important. More important than most anything else.

As far as to 'the planet" no individual species has any greater or lesser value to evolution entire... Something goes extinct, later on something fills a niche.

If you mean "should humans put the worth of animals equal to or above their fellow man on the subject of empathy?" I would say ,No. If an apartment building is burning down and a man can only save a stranger or a dog, I think he is morally obligated to save the person ... but then you get into all sorts of other things ...

I happen to know you can get a lot more for a 14 year old girl than a 14 year old dog.

On the other hand, some parrots are quite valuable.
 
Valuable to who? I guess humans are more valuable to humans than other animals but then that depends on the humans
