Ironic article in Awake! on atheism

FSM my grandparents in law are JWs. I swear it's some kind of disease which compels them to send these toilet paper rags to someone they know is an atheist.

I suppose I should applaud their persistence in trying to save my soul from eternal damnation, but somehow it just feels like they're telling me that I'm evil.

Well, c'mon - tell us..

Are you evil or not?

:D

Then I shall recycle them.

Though, I think some would talk to my boss about me cleaning the place up. It's not my job to dispose of religious pamphlets!!

If I wait until the coast is clear to pitch 'em I'm safer.

Gaia thanks you. :D

It is your job to help people avoid falling into the trap of false beliefs that interfere with the recovery of their loved ones or themselves, yes? (And no, that's probably not in your job description. ;))

The best irony for me is that there's nothing in atheism that says you shouldn't shout about it as loudly as you can, whereas I'm sure Jesus said something about believers keeping their religion private. So they're not just hypocrites, they're unfaithful hypocrites.

Jesus basically said "don't show off when you're praying". He encouraged prosletizing, but said if they reject you just shake the dust off your shoes and move on to the next town.

So a true JW would wipe his feet before leaving your house? Cool.

Consider: As
many as 1.5 million Cambodians died in the
Khmer Rouge effort to establish a godless
Marxist state. And in the officially atheistic
USSR, Joseph Stalin’s rule resulted in tens of
millions of deaths. Granted, those evils cannot
be directly attributed to atheism. But they
do show that the rule of atheism does not ensure
peace and harmony.
:D

So a couple of days ago some Jehovah Witnesses left some literature for me at my door when I wasn't home. I just now saw that one of them was on atheism and thought "this should be good."

Atheists On A Crusade

A new group of atheists has arisen in society. Called the "new atheists,"
they are not content to keep their views to themselves. Rather, they are on a crusade, "actively, angrily, passionately trying to persuade the religious from their view," wrote columnist Richard Bernstein.

Remember this was in something they just gave out to try and get people to convert.

I guess they're not content to keep their views to themselves either.
This is also on the internet. This is hypocracy at its worst. To suggest that atheists don't have the right to express their views whereas religious people do is beyond stupidity and it reveals religious bigotry at its worst.

Pot, kettle, black.

Consider all the people killed in the Crusades, by the Inquisition, by the conquistadors. Granted, those evils cannot be directly attributed to Christianity. But they do show that the rule of Christendom does not ensure peace and harmony.

I have been told by a JW that each kingdom hall has a book in which they note the address of people who state they are not interested and in future they stay away. Anyone found this to be the case?

If they stuck to this, how long before JWs are all left living in one town of their own?

If that were the case would there be any houses left for them to visit?

Yes but how many people actually tell them they aren't interested? Or do most people listen politely or just not answer the door?

I know people (principally in the UK for some strange reason) that invite them in to argue with them. They don't knock on my door.

The Saturday edition of the Daily Telegraph about 15-20 years back used to have a cartoon called the "The Greens" (featuring a suburban middle-class eco-conscious couple). One time it showed a JW carrying copies of "The Watchtower" et al and the Greens trying to press pamphlets marked "Save the Whale", "Nuclear Waste", "Acid Rain" &c (this was before Global Warming became the chief interest of eco-campaigning) on him. The caption read (words to the effect of): "My goodness - is that the time? Must be going."
