Iraqi chruches targeted

That might be the opinion of Mr Manifesto, who quoted the part of the article that said Iraq's Christian community is growing increasing anxious at the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. Personally I'm more interested in your theory that the bombing of these churches helps someone take control of Iraq.

Who do you think it helps and how?

If I were a Muslim fundamentalist faction wanting to establish control in Iraq I would want the Christian community out of there..... Either that or Muslims just get an uncontrollable desire to set off bombs whenever they see Christian churches....one or the other...

Blowing up the church.

Oh, okay. You were saying it was the guys blowing up the church that were buying into the clash of civilizations thing.

Presumably, the members of this church were Iraqi-Arab Christians. Do you think these people who bombed these churches see this clash of civilizations as a clash between Islam and Christianity rather than Arab versus the West?

So you think it's about religion?

Christianity is quite posibly viewed as a western relgion so it's quite probably a bit of both. While there are other posible reasons the small size of the christian comunity in Iraq makes them an unlikly target as part of a power strugle.

Yes I do and no it didn't.

Yugoslavia under Tito was not in any way controlled by the USSR despite the fact that it was indeed a socialist state.

Tito took a great deal of care to balance the power of the various ethnic groups in Yugoslavia and did so quite successfully without using too much violence.......all things considered.

The place only really fell apart years after his death when Milosovic tried to form an ethnically pure Serbian state by ethnicly cleansing non serbs from their homes.

Carry on:) .

Yugoslavia was indeed not under the control of the Soviets.

I believe Stalin hated Tito, and threatened at one point, "I will shake my little finger and there will be no more Tito."

I guess he didn't like that they liberated their own country without Soviet troops rushing in.

However,
You might say the fear of the Soviets was something Tito used though along the lines, "If we don't stick together, the Soviets will swallow us up."

Read Al Zarquawi's recent statement in where he pledges loyalty to Al Queda.

He says they need to defeat the "infidels" and "apostates."

The "enemies of Islam" are their foes.

But I am sure there is some deconstructionist view that says he is not really motivated by religion.

:p

Whenever there is a power-grab, religion is always used as the rallying cry. Look at World War II... both sides had God on their side. Was that a war about religion?

Look at Australia. The Aboriginies were displaced because they were un-Godly, and therefore unworthy to live on the land obviously destined for Mr Cracker. Was that a religious war?
