The latest executions brings the total number to 57, since the beginning of 2011, according to a human rights group.
The New York-based group, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, says the Iranian regime has been on an "execution binge", hanging on average one person every eight hours.[...]

According to the ICHRI, Iran executes more people per capita than any other country and is is second only to China.

Most of the executed are of course Kurds, but that's just a coincidence, right? :rolleyes:

I wonder what are the numbers of executions in China. If their number of execution per capita is the world's biggest, it must be tremendous.

If Thunder's stat is correct it looks like thus far Iran's ahead on the execution rate per capita by a factor of FIVE!

It's a long way to the finish line however, so it's still anyone's race.

I don't see anything in the news about them recently.

I know they have a good amount of autonomy in northern Iraq, and they are prospering from it. So what's there to talk about?

The fact that their activists and leaders are being executed in record numbers by Iran, for instance? You know, as mentioned in the news article linked in the OP?

I know they have a good amount of autonomy in northern Iraq, and they are prospering from it. So what's there to talk about?

The Kurds in Turkey and Iran. And it's not all puppies and unicorns and rainbows for some people living in Kurdish Iraq.

It's true that the iranian kurds have always been the poor relations in the care stakes. What with the iraqi kurds getting gassed and the turkish ones living somewhere where journalists were prepared to go from time to time the iranian ones (untill recently anyway) where largly left out.

That's probably one of the reasons the Iranian regime is trying to step on them. Everyting that is happening in Iraq is having the adverse effect in Iran, they see that teir neighbours are having a little more autonomy and democracy, so the Iranian reactionary government is pushing for more oppression.
 
And the alleged left-winger Galloway defends this regime. It is long overdue that the foul stench coming from the theocracy of Iran faces the full force of the left. It should be our natural enemy.

I agree completely. And the fact that it's not, and we have people like Galloway, is why I hate being on "the left" sometimes.

It's hard to ignore the fact that the US government at the time (including people who were also part of the US government during the 2003 war) was very friendly with Saddam and his government, even after knowing what he did to the Kurds.

Minimizing Saddam's atrocities wasn't always the sole purview of "the left".

Yes, and when it came the time to do the right thing and actually topple that SOB, the left then considered Saddam "contained" and "harmless", and the victim of US manipulation.

That "the left" (as it's so broadly called around here) did a massively stupid thing for ideological reasons more recently than "the right" did doesn't mean that "the right" didn't also do a massively stupid thing for ideological reasons not too long ago.

EDIT: It's a pointless tu quoque to raise it from either side of the debate, I admit, since it sidesteps the real issues.

Somewhat ironic that the Galloway Left strive to prop up a regime that suppresses the left within their own borders.
