Iran talks get results

Nobody expects Iran will change overnight but brining Russia on board seems to have had a positive effect.

Also, characterizing Iran as a nation full of religious fanatics who want to die is horribly dishonest. The younger generations in Iran are quite westernized and interested in western culture, they don't share some of the leaderships hardline and antiquated views. I think the old, "walk softly and carry a big stick", might be the best approach until this younger generation matures and takes over.

For getting Russia on board I give President Obama a gold star.

Uhh, am I really seeing a discussion where Iran's nuclear and other ambitions are the Evil in the world, while American nuclear and other ambitions are the Good in the world?

Well USA couldn't be the militant bastard it is, unless at least 50% of its citizens politically tolerate its militant bastardry.

I hope that some day you can return to the alternate universe you come from.

I agree. Who does this?

Pssssssst. They were already on board, on their own terms. Have been for years. They are not required to dance to America's tune, or haven't you been paying attention to Vlad Putin for the past ten years?

But wait, you are from Belgium, where the natives all talk talk, but other people pay in BLOOD for your freedom.

You ought to get down on you knees every day and thank the British for coming, not once, but twice, to bleed for your freedom to be the most despicable collection of bureaucrats and Eurocrats assembled in so small a space on the planet earth. All flash, no boom, that is Belgium in a nutshell. Please feel free to notice that the second time, the Brits could not have done it without our help.

Here's a new adage: "The whinging never stops among the unworthy."

It's model is Belgium.
Hahaha, what the hell are you on about.

I remember some people swearing to their god that Bush was going to start a war with Iran before he left office. What happened?

The third tem never came about, apparently. :p

Actually, what I think happened was that Robert Gates, among others, was listened to.

Or, it was a bluff to start with.

Or, Bush got tired of Cheney upstaging him.

Or, or, or ....

That said...I'm all for engaging with Iran's nuclear program, rather than trying to prevent it. That way, we make sure it's a peaceful program, and we get more working, safe, nuclear power plants out there. Win-win, for all concerned.
And there's of course the reality that the Iranians have the right to a nuclear program, like every other nation does.
Religious fanatics who are seeking a nuclear bomb.
I thought there was no unified opinion about nuclear weapons among Iran's clerics?
I agree. Who does this?
This person:
The Soviets were not religious whackjobs seeking to die. Thus, the concept of mutually assured self-destruction is inoperative.
Thinking Iran's leaders are fundamentally irrational is nowhere based in fact and is nothing more than a form of racism.

You mean, like Iranian racism against the Jewish and Baha'i communities in Iran?

But is it the same old evasions?

It seems to me it's like the same old: "We won't stop enrichment. In fact, if you go on refusing to sell us 20% enriched Uranium then we will enrich to that level ourselves."

I've never understood this. Whatever their ultimate ambitions might be, Iran has a crystal clear right to enrich uranium under the NNPT. Shouldn't they be sanctioned for things they do that violate the NNPT rather than for things they do that comply with it?

Good thing there was never any racism in the U.S. or the Soviet Union. M.A.D. would never have worked!

Try again.

Better the second time around?

Too soon to tell if there are "results".

It looks like someone was quick to use this only as a way to have a pot shot at the previous administration.

If you're not interested in a discussion, you can always start a blog and conduct your monologues there.

I'm sure no one would be interested.
