Well, maybe not quite the whole world.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ordered the cancellation of economic contracts with countries where the media have carried cartoons of the prophet, the ISNA news agency reported.

The report said the hardline president had ordered the creation of an official body to respond to the cartoons, saying the regime "must revise and cancel economic contracts with the countries that started this repulsive act and those that followed them."
yahoo

I think their president wants their country to commit economic suicide.

What is it with people from that area and their fascination with suicide as some sort of problem solver?

First they came for Bart Simpson, and I said nothing.

Irans been getting real lippy as of late. Its time to smack them down. UN desrt storm 1 style.

72 virgins. A possible deprogramming solution might be to have them sleep with one and realize it isn't so great.

Next thing you know, they'll justify their atomic program under "the need to defend the Prophet from the godless Europeans".

Lessee....just how crazy is Iran? Crazy enough to nuke somebody over a cartoon?

Oh I can answer that one!

The answer is no.

However the President of Iran is.

Oh, no! No more special Iranian socks for women. However will we survive?

Interesting. One wonders if the contracts cancelled will be only with the governments or with companies under those governments' umbrellas. Is Iran seriously ready to self-impose an oil embargo to almost every country in Europe?

Dammit to hell, I was just about to order one of these snappy numbers for my wife..

(sure hope the powers that be don't get nervous over the scarcasm).

edit...looking at this it seems obscene to me. Making women dress up like this? Yeah, JREF is right to be scared.

A new dimension of horror has been recently added to that style of dress: how do you know it's a good Muslim woman under there, and not Michael Jackson?

The possibility is so frightening, I'm surprised the countries where women dress like this don't immediately forbid the practice. It's too great a risk!

If this keeps getting out of hand, I might by one of those for myself. Let's see if they can find the "infidels" if they are all hiding under a burka. Besides it might make me look a bit sexier than otherwise - a kind of a step up the ladder. :D

I actually don't think they understand the implications of running a total stop of all trade. Maybe we should just accept it and find alternatives to oil in a hurry. Would be fun to see the middle east without the inflow of oil revenues. My guess is that the situation down there would go up in flames. Since they cannot figure out how to produce anything themselves, it would be a short time before the regimes couldn't pay the military or the police, and that would somehow be a treat.

Anyways - I'm kind of enjoying this. It is seldom to see stupidity unfold itself so obviously.

Michael Jackson still has a lot of money, and is no stranger to plastic surgery. You think he'd draw the line at adding bosoms?

One maybe, but he'd never do two. There is a line that he will not cross because it would be too wierd.

carefull what you say here buddy. That is one of those 72 virgins. Also, this is also how you must make love to them, covered and all. It is the law--and not just Islamic law. Jewish law also prohibits lookie--just touchie.

Even if (or, hopefully, when) the West makes itself independent of Middle Eastern oil, there'll still be plenty of customers in Asia. There'll be Middle Eastern oil revenues for some time to come - although they may run into staffing and infrastructure challenges if all Western ties are severed. Sadly, as usual, it'll be 'the man in the street' that will suffer any consequences - the rulers probably have enough doe stached away in Swiss accounts to see them through a few generations...
