Invocation at Obama's Inauguration by... Rick Warren? The ****?

Bishop Robinson was on Rachel Maddow's show last night. He claims that this invocation thing was in the works long before Rick Warren, and that he has had a close relationship with Obama since the New Hampshire primary.

His invitation doesn't bother me so much but for the fact that he is chosen to open for a bunch of Hollywood types. Is it a coincidence that he gets trotted out in front of the Hollywood liberals and then Warren gets to go for the general public?

The Obama camp claims it shows how they are including everyone. But to me it seems more like chosing a black preacher to go to your black supporters, and having a white preacher to front the white supporters. That's not being inclusive, that is segregation.

If they really wanted to be inclusive, they should have chosen Robinson for the general public, and had Warren open for the Hollywood liberals. It would have been their way of showing that unwelcome voices are allowed.

Obama inviting Warren to speak at the inaugural is brilliant but only in the relative sense, ie, it's not really brilliant per se, but it just seems brilliant in comparison to most other politicians that are so mind numbingly stupid.

Bush lost the popular vote in 2000 and barely won it in 2004 and yet he had his middle finger stuck up to his political opponents for eight straight years. Then Obama won by a big margin and the first thing he did was invite one of the leaders of a wing that most strongly dislikes him. Isn't that just the common sense smart thing to do? In fact, I think one reason Obama won so big in the first place is that such common sense smart things like that are his normal operating procedure.

The people having reflexively terribly negative reactions to Obama inviting Warren are being shortsighted at best and blindly dogmatic at worst. IMO the biggest enemy of all is dogma and one of the reasons I like Obama so much is that he seems very pragmatic and anti-dogma.
