Invitation to Derek Johnson to discuss his ideas

I can't imagine why someone from another forum would not want to come over here and debate in good faith after receiving such a warm and civil invitation.

Well, b****r me, Red Ibis and I agree on something.

Lads, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Why the hell would anyone come along for what's meant to be a sensible sceptical discussion when you're already ripping the mickey out of him???

architect.

He asked tom to post his opening salvo. I was just responding to it. Several simple questions for him to answer. That is civil and sensible.

I'm afraid I disagree; wait for him to turn up rather than argue by proxy.

um....cause Truthers understand that they will lose any honest debate?

If anyone wonders why there are no truthers left, or why no prominent members of the truth movement post here, this thread should serve as an example. If all you age going to do is post defamatory comments (for the 10,000th time), do everyone a favour and save it. The only thing worse than truthers regurgitating their talking points is debunkers self righteous condescension and disrespect. There once was a time I could link truthers to a JREF thread that would debunk their positions with a minimum of noise, now it seems a handful of posters have taken it upon themselves to simply ridicule any one they deem a truther. That makes discussion and debate a non starter.

This invitation and the subsequent discussion could open the door to a dialogue between the 'brain trust' at AE/911 and JREF. If simply the facts are presented, it could serve as one of the more important pieces of debunking in a long time (as it would require prominent members to answer questions that would then be on record). It would be a shame to have it ruined by the vocal minority of members on the board.

this is nothing more than a call out thread for someone who isnt even a member yet. Instead of arguing by proxy. Let the guy show up and post himself. If his arguments can stand debate. he will post. if not. he will avoid posting and can be ignored.

I also see no reason to be caustic towards him. I do, however, reserve the right in the future for snide, barely relevant comments and expressions of outrage; hey, it's all I have

I agree for the most part. This has really become little more than a truther bashing hobby forum, which I suppose is fine, but not when you are actually trying to invite debate. In my experience, the best way to embarrass someone's position (or better yet, change their mind) is to simply point out the facts in a polite manner and let them display their bizarre brain gymnastics. Plus it's a lot more decent.

Since when are truthers capable of being embarrassed? You have to have some degree of self-awareness for that.

I'll give Derek Johnson the benefit of the doubt, but if he's simply going to regurgitate long-debunked David Ray Griffin crap like freefall speed, pools of molten steel, hijackers still alive, amall fires, oxygen-starved fires, as well as the Jones thermite nonsense he should expect to be called out on that.

Frankly, I'll be amazed if he even attempts to make an engineering argument.

I suspect the value comes from making those on the fence embarrassed, but only to themselves, that they might've entertained such notions for more than a moment. We are not hunting the hardcore. We (meaning "people who believe that ****" is real, not the actual "I," who loves our little crackpots and who would encourage them were that not impolite) seek to point them to other, more real possibilities.

I watched some videos of Derek....

Somewhat disturbing....having been on both sides of the interview table in the engineering world in my short 7 years of experience....I would tell him to drop this before it affects his professional career.

More experienced engineers would eat that guy alive with his "theories", I fear that if he continues down this path his career will suffer...

If I was on the structural/mechanical side of engineering and his resume ever came across my desk...I would think twice about recommending him if his analytical/research abilities are such that he is a truther....

At some point in his education do you think someone taught him what a prognostic cloud was? Most likely not since he is an engineer, but to have any credibility you would think he would have looked up the term before parroting the truther mantra.

:boggled:

Quit with the taking the pish, lads, you're doing nothing to encourage him to come along.

Because even knowing what he discusses outside of this forum he could in fact contradict the expectations of most people hammering him before he's even a member.

I can see why people are tired of regurgitation and the early indications he's given; doesn't really justify ruining the thread though. Just my personal opinion...
