Been absent from the forum for a bit but this magnificanet thread, lo and behold, still lives!

Leaving the Bio EV to others, but sticking to the techno, I just sat through a product development meeting with 2 other R&D guys. We spent most of the afternoon trying to identify the niche the new product would soon hopefully occupy between other similar competing products.

We talked about function and how to make sure the performance of the new product fit between higher and lower price-point products without stepping on toes or cannibalizing sales.

We talked about the design language of the product group, and how the aesthetic features of the new product should project it's identity to the market.

We talked about how the engineering and structure was CONSTRAINED by all of the context, by competing products even from within the brand, and how THIS WAS LIKELY TO GIVE THE NEW PRODUCT A UNIQUE VISUAL IDENTITY.

If this was a product that required transistors, we would then hire Jimbob to design the appropriate component to fit into the product.

Gieven this description, who is the designer? What does that even mean?

The heroic designer may be, but not ''A'' designer. Marconi designed a helicopter, decades before the first prototype. Galileo designed a primitive telescope after a Dutchman invented the lens. Sorry for bragging, but they were both Italian.

You have me on toast there. May they rust in peace. But you have to admit, that the Lada was even worst. That was a conception between Fiat and the Russian designers. That they sold any in Australia is the making of legends.
With the right marketing, you can sell anything to the gullible. Including any religion.
