With the Discovery Institute's new slogan of 'Teach the Controversy', has someone made the analogy in regard to Holocaust Denial? I would like to see how they rebut their own catch-phrases when used in defense of denying the Holocaust.

"Wouldn't it be better to let students hear BOTH sides, and make up their own minds?"

"Holocaust Denial is being stifled by Big History"

"There are gaps in our understanding of the Holocaust."

Agreed. Teach evolution and the occurrence of the Holocaust, and mention as a side note that there exist groups which ignore the vast recorded evidence of both. If the purview of the class permits, delve into what arguments deniers make and why science or history disproves those arguments. In general courses, just mention it and go on.

Personally, I think they'd manage to hear:
"Science proves the Holocaust"

And infer:
"Science not only proves the Holocaust, but science is here to kill God which as we know CAUSED the Holocaust."

I am very tempted to pose the interpretation the next the issue comes up.

I think there are many similarities between IDers and HDs.
A good read I "Why People Believe Weird Things" which has a few chapters on Pseudo History especially HD and Shermer actually makes many of the same points that you do and uses examples that you use.

But I do think there's room to teach phrenology alongside neurology, rule magic alongside physics, and the four elements alongside the periodic table. I'm just not sure whether exorcism or Scientology should be taught alongside psychology.

Well, the reason Holocaust denial is so offensive isn't really that it's so mind-numbingly clueless, but that it shows a lack of respect for the people who died in the Holocaust as well as their relatives and friends and the survivors. ID does lack respect for the life's work of many talented scientists, but it's not nearly as despicable as Holocaust denial. ID spits in the face of science. HD spits in the face of people.

There's a difference between braindead and heartless. Now if you compared it to Conspiracy '58, you might have a point.

ID'ers do enough damage to their own position that you don't need to craft a clumsy association with the Third Reich.

Why does this happen? What is it with this meme, this particular historical episode of Man's Inhumanity to Man, that makes people so eager to associate anything they don't care for with it?
