Insults are where you want them to be

Who you calliin a "black ho!"*

* It is obvious that the term is being mis-heard to be "black ho's." not "Black Whores," which, given the crappy sound quality of a card chip, is understandable.

It's a stupid card anyway and it should be pulled just for that reason alone.

Wasn't there some black politician a few years ago who was upset because the term "black hole" was racist?

some city councleman down in Texas (obviously a product of t he fine Tezas educational system).

This issue has nothing do do with the term "black hole." it has to do with the fact that it sounds like the card is saying "black ho."

This is not the first time a company has gotten in trouble for an unintentional cultural insult.

This feels like a Bizzaro world mirror image of an Onion story about how Fox News was advancing the cause of African Americans by portraying Obama as elitist. Now the NAACP is portraying blacks as being deeply ignorant of science.

Why is it that you are not seeing the point that it is not about science, but about the fact that the card isounds like it is saying "black ho's?"

If you want to argue the point that the NCAAP is being overly sensitive about the fact that the card sounds like it is saying “black ho’s” in a psuedo-rap format, that is one thing.

However, the implication that the NCAAP is stupid because they don’t understand a scientific term, is the real racist insult here.

But it is about science. When we process sensory inputs, we filter them through our expectations. If your expectations for characters speaking about science and space include "black whores" and not "black holes", well, I'm sorry, but you're ignorant. And it's a bloody shame that the NAACP is not only displaying such ignorance, but using it as the basis for a complaint about racism. I find the NAACP's representation of black people as ignorant through their own actions to be far more insulting than the card. Can I get that guy pulled from the shelves?

The NAACP has no one to blame but themselves for that. They have created that impression by their actions. Seriously, if you know what a black hole is, how can you listen to that card and NOT realize that they're saying "black holes"? The impression that they are ignorant (which is actually not quite the same as stupid) is FAR more justified than the impression that the card said "black whores".

In fact, the notion that an entire race needs to be protected from mishearing something is also far more insulting than the notion that a few idiots at the NAACP are underqualified for their jobs.

The NAACP is basically trying to show us that black people are a bunch of cry babies, who have not yet gown much of a backbone.

But, I don't think that's true. The original civil rights movement demonstrated otherwise: They can be a very strong people.

I don't suppose that you have any idea just how obnoxiously condescending that post is.

That's a little different. That particular word is much too easy to get confused. Especially since it is not used very often.

"Black Hole" is much more common, and it is much more ridiculous to complain about mishearing it.

Analogies fail or succeed because of the framing.

Both are cases of people wrongly crying "racism" after misunderstanding/mishearing a statement.

In both cases the whining party stuck to their guns even after the actual meaning was explained.
