Gee, who'da thought that government agencies might investigate people dedicated to revealing government secrets? I'm shocked. Shocked I tells ya.

The possibility that there is a mole feeding them info is probably what they are more interested in. Otherwise, I'm sure those links would be non existent.

Apart from the "insane conspiracy theorist" and "think" you got it more or less right.

The sites dedication to protection of whistle-blowers, and publication of information governments would prefer hidden does get them some attention.
I recall a radio interview describing how they had servers in several different countries to be able to fit information contained to local laws.

I got here a minute to late to read what you had to say, perhaps you want to repost whatever point you have in accordance to the MA?

Yes, sorry about that.

I noted (with a link to New Scientist) that Wikileaks is a respected website.

Then I asked why "Infoexcavator" thinks that the site owners should be arrested.

And then I expressed deep dislike for Infoexcavator. If I hadn't have toned it down before posting, I'd be banned by now.

IIRC correctly wikileaks is blocked by the australian firewall (for releasing the list of sites blocked by the australian firewall) so they must be on at least one government **** list

I agree, they are doing a great effort to keep governments and companies honest.

Don't count on getting a coherent answer. I don't think it is his style.

That is often tempting, one has to control such urges. :D

I think it's largely because the efforts of the wikileaks people, as well as their trials and tribulations, puts the truthers to shame.

You see, when you're actually revealing the secrets of various powerful people, governments and organizations, they actually take notice of you, and act to try to restrict your actions, as the linked article shows. Such actions can be easily documented, as is also shown.

That the truthers cannot show any such similar actions being taken against their members shows exactly how far off the mark their accusations actually are, and that is something they simply cannot stand. Hence the anger at those who have actually accomplished something, rather than nothing.

Interesting point, Horatius.
There is a logical problem in truthers complaining about someone exposing government wrongdoing. It is their problem.

Infoexcavator's complaints were purely sarcastic. A number of people here have called conspiracy theorists who claim to be followed by the government insane.

He was making a rather poor attempt to turn that around.

I'm in Australia, and http://wikileaks.org/ works for me.

I should have known this already, but I had suspected this was the case:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_in_Australia

In 2008, the Australian Labor Party introduced a policy of mandatory Internet filtering for all Australians. While the policy has not yet come into force, it has generated substantial opposition, with only a few groups in support. The Labor Party does not have enough votes in the Senate to enact any legislation to support the filter, so the filter has "effectively been scuttled" unless the government is able to implement the filter by other means.[1][2][3]

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) maintains a blacklist, leaked in March 2009,[4] of websites which would form the basis for the mandatory filter. It has issued a take-down notice and threatened fines of $11,000 per day to at least one website hosted in Australia which contained a link to material on this blacklist.[5]

On Tuesday 15 December 2009, it was announced that new legislation, entitled "Measures to improve safety of the internet for families", would be introduced to support mandatory Internet filtering.[6] This legislation is unlikely to be introduced before June 2010.[3]

And it's not the first time he's tried that. From the "Numbers Stations" thread:

You are making this up because you hate the black man and the jews, or maybe its the lizards? There is no such thing, it's a conspiracy theory. These stations just read snow depths and meteorological information.

Once again, I think it's mostly a function of his anger at the fact that we'll really listen to people who really have real evidence, as opposed to people like him and his friends. He just gets unhinged when he sees evidence that we're not actually "brainwashed sheeple".

Infoexcavator was being sarcastic?

Wouldn't work in China, where journalists are excecuted.
