Ed India going down the Dictatorship road fast...

Indian comedian Vir Das recently delivered a monologue about "two Indias" during his performance at the Kennedy centre.

I come from two Indias

This has raised a **** storm in India. The saffronites have decided that it is their duty to show how wrong he is about the intolerant Hindutva bigotry, by proving him right.

Of course, he forgot about a third India who just stands by shaking its heads and tutting.

Elections are coming up in various north Indian states and the optics of the agitation isn't good for his image. However, the farmer groups are under no illusions. They know perfectly well that the battle hasn't ended. They are quite sure that his government will work to covertly dismantle farmer support systems at the grassroots levels by underfunding and understaffing them. He will target crop loans, fertilizer supplies, seed distribution and the like. Essentially forcing the system into failure. This is already being done with the public banking systems so that private banks can thrive.

It was just a standard stand up comic routine. It's a sad day when something so innocuous is so controversial.

Just a bit more on the farmers.

"Although Mr Modi's recent concessions seem like a victory for the protesters, in New Delhi, Mr Kadyan says the mistrust between the farmers and their leader runs deep.

"That's just an announcement; they're waiting until the Parliament session starts which is end of this month and they actually revoke them as a law in Parliament,” he said.

"Until then they're not [going to stop the protest].""

Looks like the Hindu nationalism is working out exactly as planned.

There was no doubt that Modi and the BJP would win in UP. In fact, UP is the sort of the heart of what we call the cow belt.

The one thing the recent elections did prove, however, is that the Congress Party is no longer a viable national-level opposition party. The real threat for Modi is from regional parties and the up-and-coming Aam Aadmi Party (lit. The Common Man's Party).

Frankly, Congress has worked as a kind of nursery that has festered and coddled localised feudalism and a covert kind of casteism...the BJP has simply provided them with a platform that is more conducive to an open display of bigotry. I am guessing there will be more people leaving Congress to join the BJP.

Modi sure seems to be buddy buddy with Putin.Birds of a feather.

Unlike Russia, India can afford to buy and upgrade modern Russian military equipment. And India has a need to stay on par with Pakistan and China. Now is not a great time for India to repudiate their Russian relationship. I'm not saying Modi is a good guy or anything, but even the Finns allied with the Nazis for a time.

India is considering buying discounted Russian oil and fertiliser

NEW DELHI, March 14 (Reuters) - India is considering taking up a Russian offer to buy its crude oil and other commodities at discounted prices with payment via a rupee-rouble transaction, two Indian officials said, amid tough Western sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

"If we can get cheaper fertiliser from Russia then we will take that. It would help in easing some fiscal concerns," one official said.
