A couple of weeks ago, a BJP MP's conspiracy-filled rant about how a "toolkit" (essentially a strategy document) of the Congress Party specifically instructed on the use of the COVID panic to undermine the BJP administration at the centre was posted on Twitter. The problem was that while as strategy documents go, it is pretty much par for the course essentially detailing how the BJP failures need to be highlighted; the real issue was that the letterhead on which the "toolkit" was shared was obviously forged. Twitter tagged the post as "Manipulated Media."
The Government immediately came out in defence of its dumbest but most loyal mouthpiece and insisted that the
tag be removed. Twitter stuck to its guns and decided to tag
five more BJP politicians with the same tag for continuing to share the tweet.
Then, yesterday,
the Delhi Police, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Central Home Ministry, raided the Twitter offices. For what reason, nobody knows. Even funnier was the fact that the Twitter office was closed for the lockdown as was Delhi because of the pandemic.
