I'm Born Again !!

Maybe this thought has come up before, but in reality, aren't converted atheists (once religious people becoming atheists) the only ones who are truly born again? Aren't we all born atheist -- meaning we have no inborn knowledge or belief of any religion? Therefore, by giving up on all the religious beliefs the world offers one is truely going back to their original natural state of mind at birth -- no beliefs. So, would it not be correct when one asks of my religion, I should reply back with being a 'Born Again Atheist'?

In case it needs noting -- this slightly sarcastic comment is in response to the (what I consider silly) phrase 'Born Again' Christian.

Hi, my name's Ben, Ben Born Again.

As a one time true believer I was going to say I didn't identify with your 1st paragraph but the 2nd made me reconsider. Sure, I'm born again agnostic (don't have the backbone to go all the way). :D
 
I do go all the way (ooer), but I wouldn't identify myself as being born again. Partially because when I was going to church I did identify myself as "born again", which was what that whole Pentecostal thing was all about.

I prefer to say that I used to be born again, but I got better.
 
i was talking with someone about this topic today... and i must say i dont want any part of being born a 2nd time, ive simply outgrown the possiblity, literally
 
To me the concept of being 'born again' means that you are new to the world and the old you is no longer of any importance. I may have been a believer as a child (I really don't remember any part of my life where I really did believe) but I do not dismiss the former life as a part of my life now.

I can see that -- to me the phrase seems able to imply that my state of belief is again that which it was at birth.
 
To me the concept of being 'born again' means that you climbed inside some unsuspecting woman (or decanting jar) and reemerged from her birth canal (or jar neck).
 
Ha! ... check out the letter sent to Randi in this week's opening commentary; it's right up front.

Today (5/25) marks one year since I released myself completely from religious beliefs and all other unfounded & irrational thought processes. That was the culmination of a few agnostic years of questioning everything in which I believed or had "faith." I call it "intellectually born-again" if you wish.

No ... I had no prior knowledge of this -- feel free to check my posting dates.
