One of my work friends was talking about "Illuminati" how they trying to take over the world and how they are everywhere and stuff like that. Honestly I have never heard of them before so I kind of looked at the whole thing scepticly ( as I always do). She told me she read about them in a book "Angels & Demons"... well naturaly I told her that it is a fiction and not true... She told me that she knows some one who is a Mason and that he told her that Illuminati are covering under Masonics at the moment and waiting to come out...
you know that kind of thing.... lots of conspiracy theories...

anyways I told her that I will get some research about it from Internet... of ourse it is hard to get anything unbiased on matter like that.. I am relying on my trusted sceptics... :)

any info about that... or may be it was already discussed on other threads.

Thank you

That's the trouble with these super-seekrit conspiracies. Even if the secret folk take an oath that says they will have their throats cut, and their hearts torn out (and other nasty stuff) if they ever reveal the seekrit -- somebody always BLABS.

I want that Mason's name so I can report him to the Grand Illuminati Lodge of Ancient Delphic Pelvics. That'll teach the tattle-tale cowan. :) It's no fun going about with your throat cut, and missing your heart. :)

"are covering under Masonics at the moment and waiting to come out ..." whereupon EVERYONE will have to wear silly aprons and shake hands in a very distinctive way.

To be serious, why would this Mason tell a woman this? To imply he might be a sooper-dooper Illuminati, perhaps? To try to impress, perhaps?

Wikipedia has a rather diplomatic article concerning your question.

The funny thing about this conspiracy theory is, that noone has ever left the alleged organization and revealed any of its secrets - in more than 200 years. It simply doesn't fit. For measure, the masons just can't stop talking.

I think you have pretty much covered the whole argument there.

It has to be said that whatever anyone's view of Dan Brown's writing skills, he does seem to be able to get a lot of people to believe every word he writes in what are, fairly obviously, works of fiction.
He does seem to do a lot of research into his books, but not to the extent of finding out whether the things he has discovered are actually true or not.
For example in researching "The Da Vinci Code" he seems to have been fairly thoroughly taken in by the hoax that was the Priory of Scion.

His books are fun, but anyone who decides they have learnt anything historic or factual from any of them might need to do just a little bit more research of their own.

For goodness sake don't let her read Jurassic Park... :)

Good point but not necessarily. Skull & Crossbones?

I'll be the first. I'm a member of the illuminati (Level 12 subset x cat 47Q) and I'm willing to talk. Anything you want to know I tell you. I'll answer any question.

That means you're now back at level 4 subset x dog 11Z, so now nobody will listen to you anyway.

Aha! I think I've cracked it!

They're the same "group" as David Icke's alien Lizards!

It all makes so much more sense now;)

Two conspiracy theories for the price of one!

I think I need to lie down in a darkened room for a few minutes now.

For a fun look at the Illuminati, check out Steve Jackson's classic card game based on their antics.

All you need to know about the Illuminati is covered in a wonderful biography by R. A. Wilson and Robert Shea :D

Besides it being fiction, "Angels and Demons" is not a good place to argue for the modern existence of the Illuminati, since
it is revealed at the end that it was not actually the Illuminati, but a mole within the Catholic Church pretending to act in their name. The resolution is consistent with the actual secret society remaining long defunct.
