If you think Rand Paul is bad.....

QUOTE:
"His ideas have drawn support from tea party activists, and he has raised more money from individuals than his GOP rival while also contributing more than $1 million to his own campaign."

Where did this nut get $1 million?

It's an indication of his Randian superiority to the rest of us.

Why do you consider people with nutty ideas to be less capable of earning money? In any case, it was mostly hard work with a dose of good luck:

In 1999, he and some partners set up a body armor company that became Paraclete Armor & Equipment. In a small operation, he did everything from fixing sewing machines to cleaning bathrooms. He designed and patented lightweight vests that could stop .44-caliber bullets, armor he describes as "years ahead of anything the military was doing."

He bought out his partners in 2001. Then, after 9-11 and a war in Afghanistan, business surged. Sales hit $16 million in 2005. A year later, he sold the company for $30 million.

I'm saying that the voters haven't changed much, and the parties have changed more. Like Bill Maher said, the Democrats moved to the right, and the GOP moved into the asylum. It's not like the TP is a whole bunch of 'new crazy'; they've always been crazy. The liberals are still liberal, and the so-called 'moderates' are still non-insane right-wingers that sway many elections

Just like many moderates were turned off when the McCain campaign became the McPalin campaign, many moderates will be turned off to further GOP retardation. A small percentage of the populace has probably changed, but not much.

I more or less agree with Maher's assessment, but I think there has been a growing tide of anti-intellectualism and fear-based politics over the past several years. The tea party over the past year has given voice and increased credibility to these loons and has pulled some otherwise sane people to the dark side. So, I htink the Tea Party overall has changed the political landscape.

For a lot of people its not really about policy, its about us vs them. Whatever the other guy's policy is, ours is the opposite - and the more opposite the better. And we'll do and say anything we need to win. Its like US national politics has become the Lakers/Celtics rivalry (or UNC/Dook, or Yankees/Mets, etc...). Its not about policy, its about scoring points.

Or ... it's not just about winning, it's about the other guy losing.

Your mention of the UNC-Duke competition made me think of that. Even though they are arch-rivals, they are still neighbors, but don't go looking for any 'friendly' rivalry on Franklin St. If Duke makes it into a championship and UNC doesn't they'll cheer for whoever is playing against Duke. Regardless.

Yup, for too many people, it's a zero-sum game. Never mind that we're actually all in the same boat and eventually someone's got to plug the damn leaks before we all go down.

In Hoke County divorce records, his wife said in 1995 that D'Annunzio had claimed to be the Messiah, had traveled to New Jersey to raise his stepfather from the dead, believed God would drop a 1,000-mile high pyramid as the New Jerusalem on Greenland and found the Ark of the Covenant in Arizona. A doctor's evaluation the following month said D'Annunzio used marijuana almost daily, had been living with another woman for several months, had once been in drug treatment for heroin dependence and was jailed a couple times as a teenager.

They are nuts!! He's not Congressional material, he's PRESIDENTIAL material!!

Should attract some of the liberal vote, particularly the far left edges. Nader has been replaced. This guy is in the wrong party, for starters ...

I guess it was the "1,000 mile high pyramid in Greenland" thing that threw me off. ;)

Just in case anyone is wondering what that would look like, I whipped up this image. It's to scale. The height of the pyramid is about one-fourth the radius of the earth. Even if you shrink the base it's still enormous. It would crush its way right through the earth's crust.

I'm thinking maybe he said it was a thousand feet high. Either that or this dude is slightly nuts.

Don't even try it. This fool has nothing to offer to Democrats or liberals.

Libertarian all the way.
