If you think Rand Paul is bad.....

Isn't this the same district where a candidate held a couple of "Machine gun socials" earlier this year?

Must be something in the water...

ETA: D'oh! Its the same guy!

Wow. Good for the GOP that they are pointing out how bat **** insane* this guy is.

*Not a medical assessment.

I love this. The GOP needs to morph into the TP then as they become further and further marginalized in the GE, we can actually go a few decades of non-retarded policy making

madurobob: Where is this in NC? Please /please/ tell me it's not Johnson County area..

They're not that distant from one another. This story is from Hoke county which is near Fayetteville, and Johnston county is on the I-95 corridor about an hour east of Raleigh. About a 90 minute drive between them.

People keep saying this and I keep getting this sinking feeling that the righties will vote them in anyway and we'll get stuck with a powerful minority of raving lunatics, unless of course they win the majority.

Not that powerful. The House already runs on majority rules, and the filibuster is not set in stone for the Senate. The longer the Senate Republicans are unhelpfully obstructionist, the more likely the rules will simply be changed.

I tend not to like issue-based demands to get rid of the filibuster. But if the issue involved is "the government cannot function," I'm willing to change my mind....

They are close enough I'd call it the same area. There is only one county separating the two (Harnett). Both Hoke and Johnston (remember that T) are just on the western limits of what we'd call "Down East".

This wont happen because it's not the country that is changing, but the party

No, it's Johnson, in honor of my friend's illustrious name. (<.<) Okay, Johnston. Been a long while since I lived near Clayton and Garner and I just wanted to know he didn't represent where I grew up. That'd be sad. (In less related news, I know where that is roughly, but since I didn't ever go into that area except on trips to Ft. Bragg (lived in Harnett or Wake county for 14-16~ years) I don't really care.

(Also, for all the sound and fury the tea partiers are generating, I don't think it'll be more than a fad, because like the Know Nothing party, I strongly suspect they'll fracture later)

While the 1000-mile tall pyramid fascinates me, let's put it aside and talk about his political platform.

"Abolish the Departments of Education, Health and Human Services,
Agriculture, Energy, Labor, Housing and Urban Development, Interior,
Transportation, Treasury, and Home Land Security. Any duties remaining that are Constitutional should be rolled into other Departments.

"Social Security and Medicare should be cut into fifty proportionate parts and given to the control of the states. All promises should be kept at a percentage proportionate to the individual’s age compared to the retirement age. The new System should be based on individuals preparing for and providing for their own retirement and health care.

"A private safety net system should be encouraged for those who fall through any possible cracks in this system. (Church)Implement the FairTax, repeal the Sixteenth Amendment and abolish the IRS. The original rate to be revenue neutral is 23% but the goal should be to reach a limit of 10% within ten years. Any future revisions that result in tax increases must be passed with a super Majority in both the House and Senate."

I would think most of the people on this forum would want to see this guy elected.

I don't think I follow you. Are you saying there is no change to the political landscape because of the antics of the Tea Party?

I'm saying that the voters haven't changed much, and the parties have changed more. Like Bill Maher said, the Democrats moved to the right, and the GOP moved into the asylum. It's not like the TP is a whole bunch of 'new crazy'; they've always been crazy. The liberals are still liberal, and the so-called 'moderates' are still non-insane right-wingers that sway many elections

Just like many moderates were turned off when the McCain campaign became the McPalin campaign, many moderates will be turned off to further GOP retardation. A small percentage of the populace has probably changed, but not much.

You always have the strangest expectations about what "people on this forum" ought to think. Why don't you just speak for yourself, and expect others to do the same?

The GOP implosion continues...

This is going to be hell on the GOP in NC, because by employing these scorched earth tactics now, they are airing all kinds of messy dirty laundry for the general election. If this nut wins the runoff, then the moderates in the general election will see him - rightfully, it seems - as ◊◊◊◊◊◊* crazy. If he loses the runoff, the GOP establishment will lose a lot of support from the Tea Party crowd, and they may very well stay home on election day.

Either way, it's a lose-lose for the GOP in that district. Just like what is happening in the Florida Senate race, and what is likely to occur in many races all over the nation.

If it weren't for the GOP painting itself into corners like this, they could actually have a reasonable shot at retaking the House. But as long as they continue to engage in this kind of nonsense, I'm thinking them getting the House is a long shot.

"His ideas have drawn support from tea party activists, and he has raised more money from individuals than his GOP rival while also contributing more than $1 million to his own campaign."

Where did this nut get $1 million?
