Ok, this may be premature, but assuming the world doesn't end on the 21st -- and that's a pretty wild assumption, I know -- any chance any of those spouting this nonsense will come to their senses? Or, will they just go on believing and seeking a new date?

I don't suppose it would occur to them that no-one was worthy of being raptured?

It doesn't require any magical thinking to figure that out, we've had tons of stuff like this going on every once in a while.

Some of them will come to their senses, but the majority will suffer from cognitive dissonance and somehow become even more convinced they were right.

"We were good enough so the lord forgave us" or all sorts of other crap like that.

Hey - maybe ol' Yahweh's been trying to have the Rapture every day since 50 CE and HE still hasn't found anybody who makes the cut ...

Look at his followers. Would you take these people? He's probably postponed the rapture 20 times hoping for someone cool to talk to.

That or simply they'll figure out that this date may have not been calculated right, just like the ones before it, but the next on totally is the real thing. I mean, there have even been BS peddlers who've revised their doomsday date several times, and enough people still believed them. I mean, it's not just trusting that yet another doomsday calculation will be right although all others were wrong, but trusting even that a specific person will get their next calculation right, although they were always wrong before.

It is my opinion that Harold Camping should be punched at least once for each person he's convinced of this garbage. Then they should be punched for following this tripe. Basically, I want to see more punching going on in that direction.

I actually have some level of respect for those who hold supernatural beliefs, but in a form that allows those beliefs to be tested, and are willing to let that test happen for all to see. This can be a teachable moment, and help promote critical thinking.

I doubt it will make much difference to the most deeply entrenched believers. But, I think the visibility of this prediction and its results will have some positive effect on those who are elsewhere along that belief's continuum.

I think he set it up that the rapture starts on May 21st, but ends in October. This is so that any natural disasters are attributed to the "rapture".

And, it's supposed to start at 8:30pm EST on Saturday night.

....I'll be too busy watching Dr. Who.....

Kind of a repeat of other threads here, but my prediction is no. There will be no sense and no honesty. The prophets will fudge it, and try with a straight face to make their error appear as a truth and a proof of God's unfathomable greatness. If there's a depth to which they will not stoop, it has not yet been plumbed.

It's really a self-fulfilling prophecy... first off, the world won't "end." Rapture just means that the chosen ones get zapped up to heaven and the rest of us have to live for a few centuries of "Tribulation."

Tribulation is another word for "God's wrath," and really just consists of things like earthquakes, wars, and hardships (AKA, stuff that's happening now). ....so in the scheme of things, the guy's prediction is pretty likely. ;)

The same guy incorrectly predicted the end of the world once before, and it didn't stop folks from believing him this time. His explanation was that he miscalculated the last time, but he's sure he's got it right now. I'm sure he has a similar explanation already prepared for Sunday, and the same people will believe it. BTW, his church is supposedly sitting on tens of thousands of dollars in donations and proceeds from his books. He hasn't given away any of that money in preparation for Saturday so one wonders if he believes his own prediction or if it's just a money-making scheme.

Well, if not centuries, at least till October, according to this particular set of delusions.

AKA stuff that's always happening.

It is supposed to be 6.00pm local, So Britian will be long gone before the transmission occurs

I see.... I didn't take into account these particular delusions. :D I heard Tribulation was supposed to be 70 weeks, and with a Bible week being 7 Earth years, I figured we'd be looking at just short of 500 years. So another half millenium of wars and natural disasters.

AKA stuff that's always happening.

;)

I think the Doctor will stop the rapture from happening so his show will air....

:D

Well if we have to sit through another Rory loves Amy loves the Doctor loves River episode, I might just take the rapture :p
