If paranormal abilities actually exist whst should we use them for?

If “they” were existed:

First application of whatever power would have been in combat. (Can't think of anything that wasn't first tried out in "combat".)

Wrong IMO. First application would have been in finance, thus negating violence and war as means to satisfy one's greed.

Crime detection: The practical uses are mind boggling and crime detection has always been quick to use any new tool or technology.

crime is usually quicker than its prevention...

I think it would follow the usual pattern, first see if you can eat it, then if you can have sex with it and finally if it can be used to hit someone over the head. Violence get third place IMHO and if 'finance' and 'edible' are to be regarded as synonyms Flo is quite right. But I bet sex comes before finance if the Wall Street kind is considered.

If you could speak to the dead how could murderers foil you?

Anyway it's my imaginary universe so I can dictate the rules.
No-one can foil me.
And my gaze is piercing and described as 'steel grey like a harsh winter evening' or 'blue as the heart an Antarctic iceberg'.
I haven't decided yet.

If I could speak to the dead, so could murderers ... and you may well dictate the rules, but where's the army that guarantees I'll follow them ? ;)

What could the murderers say to the dead to prevent me getting my information?

"Don't tell them I killed you or I'll, er, be cross."

There's no reason to believe that the arguments that work in this world would not in the next, from psychological pressure to threats ("now that you're dead anyway, there's no point to revenge, think of my children/family" - "nobody's going to believe you anyway" - "wait until I die, and I'll see to it personally that your non-life becomes a misery" - "I've got mates on the other side, don't squeal on me or else". ;)

If these claimed abilities really exist, what kind of purposes would you like to see them be used for?

For example if Remote Viewing exists, I would like them to locate Osama Bin Laden.

I would like to locate a gorgeous nubile.

Or if mediums can talk to the dead I would like them to be able to ask the murder victims who killed them. None of this "I see a red car and a wood near water" stuff, but actual useful information.

I would like to ask them what the afterlife realm is like.

Future clairvoyance is the MOST bogus of all paranormal claims. The paradoxical nature of its existence makes it impossible (like time travel).

Nothing paradoxical if you can prevent the future event. The evidence suggests we can.

That's where the paradox comes in. We see the future, we take steps to avoid it, it doesn't happen, we can't have seen it... I don't think that paradox is inevitable, it would depend on the nature of time.

Ian, I bet you're one of those people who, if the holodeck from Star Trek were real, would use it for sex.

Myself I would only use it for information, learning and chess.

And nubile is an adjective.

But heck, you don't need psi powers to locate nubile women. That bit's easy. It's getting them into bed that takes a miracle.

Pretty lousy I hear because of all the questions from psychics and channelers. Being chased around by ghost hunters is no fun either.

Flo,

I very much doubt that there'd be anything to be gained financially if remote viewing and precognition were real; all your competitors would have access to exactly the same knowledge.

Capital - not unlike like the lottery polls - grows because it involves risk and exploitation of the less adept; no-one gains something without someone else having to give up something - even if that is 'only' someone's time and effort. Throw in the paranormal and the risk factor and the scope for financial exploitation would disappear - no-one would ever have been able to make money, because the other guy would always know your next move and vice versa. IMHO, this is yet another hard indicator that the paranormal is just fantasy - as others have rightly pointed out, the paradoxes involved negate the basic premise!

Having said that, I'd use my paranormal abilities to not having to actually work for a living.

Flyboy217,

You're not very good at this are you? Instead of quoting people (in this case AT) out of context, and thereby creating an irrelevant strawman, why don't you just address the topic of the thread? Be a good sport, will ya'?

I actually suspect that in the afterlife realm we will be able to collective create our own environments. Also we will be able to read each other minds with perfect ease. There will be no private thoughts, nothing you can hide :)

Won't that be great! :)

Actually, that sounds like hell to me.
