1. Assume that Randi continues to be an honest, law-abiding citizen.

2. Assume that it would take a miracle for Sylvia Browne to openly and voluntarily admit that her insinuations about Randi's alleged activities requiring police involvement have been fabrications.

3. Sylvia Browne will make such an admission.

4. Given premises 1 & 2 & 3, we infer the occurrence of a miracle. What cannot happen in the absence of a miracle will not happen unless there is a miracle.

Okay, here is an adaptation of the initial post into everyday language:

Randi: "It would take a miracle for Sylvia to shut up and admit that she was lying."

MoeFaux: "Hey, look at this news article! Sylvia just admitted that she was lying and she promises to shut up."

Randi: "Behold, a miracle."

MoeFaux: "Hold on there. Let's wait and see whether she keeps her promise."

Sylvia making such an admission can be performed using non-miraculous means.

I think for the sake of the argument they are assuming that Torture isnt involved :D

But will this take place under observable conditions, with all parties involved agreeing beforehand what will constitute a successful "miracle admission"? Documentation, please.

Perhaps repetition will help to emphasize the above assumption.

What if Sylvia Browne's parents were psycologists?

Sorry folks, off topic.

Am I included among the folks?

RandFan, perhaps you should go see a good movie. Somebody recommended one of the sequels to the original Matrix movie, but I haven't seen either of the sequels yet. Have you?

money, mouth?

Let's firm this up with an expiration date. If you do that, I might be willing to make a wager that Sylvia will neither admit to lying nor shut up and stop lying by that date.

Expiration date: 3PM local time in Tennessee, USA on February 29th, 2024.

What are we betting?

Some time ago on this forum I claimed I have precognitive dreams.

My claim: If I dream I have to pee and upon awaking announce that I have to pee, and then I pee, I have demonstrated my paranormal powers. :p

One million dollars, please. :D

That sounds as though the dreams are at a stage of thinking that comes before fully rational thought. In other words, they are not quite cognitive. They are "pre-cognitive."

That would not be a miracle (you assume too much!), because a mriacle is actually the temporary, localised suspension of the known laws of physics, which does not apply here.
Sylvia admitting to wrongdong would be fiction, like Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket.

I would classify this as a "pee-cognitive" power.

Sudden philosophical, religious, or artistic 'awakening' could cause the effect and yet not be a 'miracle' in the implied supernatural sense. Lives can be suddenly changed for many reasons.

The Matrix movies are easy enough to describe though.
The first Matrix was innovative and darkly thought provoking science fiction. The two sequels were a post 911 gradual descent to becoming a sort of joke on the moviegoers where the storyline was completely reduced to jingoistic clichés and special effects that replaced meaningful story.

Unfortunately there is probably something to an argument that the last movie was so bad it exists as a lasting indictment on the quality of the audience and 'what kind of movie we would like'.
