When I first saw this post, I said to myself "Stockman, Stockman, that name sounds familiar, how do I know..... AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!" I'm going to have nightmares now. I thought he banned himself?

Why would anyone want to make fun of someone in a coma?

Guys, I dont mean to sound like a total and utter douche, but could we tone down making fun of the obviously mentally ill guy?

I like a giggle as good as the next guy, but sometimes it's almost like walking into the hospital, finding a guy with no legs, and pointing and laughing.

Its more like a guy at the hospital with no legs follows you in a wheelchair shouting gibberish and shouting " What, do you find my no legs funny?". Eventually someone is going to say " Yeah, its hilarious, now **** off."

That being said, "obviously mentally ill" and "troll" have only a fine line between them. Its not all that hard to read up a bit and spout authentic sounding gibberish.

I am always astounded at the folks who come in here and think " Oh, a place where skeptics hang out, i am going to tell them my beliefs in the same way every person like me does. That will surely convince them." and after they get told we have heard it all before turn to " What a bunch of ********.".

Sorry people, but that is kind of our schtick, if you don't have evidence we are not going to be impressed. A good rule of thumb is " Are you presenting your arguments in a standard way in regards to other claims of the nature." if you are, chances are we have heard it all before, and you can expect some serious eye rolling at the attempt.

I mean i post in places that i go against the grain, from boards for the paranormal to films i disliked, difference is, i don't get all shocked and feel victimized when they dislike my posts. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be the odd man out, but don't think your the first, and unless you have some really banging evidence, don't think that your approach is original enough to get a board dedicated to skepticisim to suddenly accept evidence that doesn't pass muster.

I sometimes wonder if that's not a possible factor in why some of the readers and posters who come to these educational forums state that they are left with negative impressions. A reader can find high-quality, informative, educational posts from JohnAlbert, AstroPhotographer, Archer17, StrayCat, Paul2, among many others, but, on rarer occasion, if not so fortunate, find posts from a few skeptics (or seem to be) who appear to exhibit no evidence that critical thinking and compassion can co-exist.
Stockman -- You do seem to have somehow encountered a higher percentage of that than I've seen on the other forums here, and, granted, sarcasm may not be not rare on these forums, but if you're accusing the skeptics across-the-board of being that uncompassionate, you are mistaken. Since anybody can join these forums, it seems to simply go with the territory that there'll always be some, uh, offenders, and one apparently must simply accept that. Most of the skeptics I've encountered seem eager to inform/educate anyone who indeed seeks education/perspective/etc... and, no, would not make fun of someone who they knew to be physically or mentally handicapped.

I'd say it's more likely because their ideas are not accepted as readily as they hoped and that things don't turn out as they had imagined.

I can assure you that when you've had a good chance to look around then you'll find that Stockman has been given a very easy time, comparatively speaking. (search for Mayday threads)

Offenders? One doesn't have to accept anything as one has the right to reply and rebuttal and in extreme cases, if one thinks that one is being picked on then one can hit the report button.
