Ok, here's the backstory. I've been dating my girlfriend for nearly 4 years now. Her parents are absolutely wonderful people but also a bit steeped in woo. During the course of our relationship I have come out to her family as being not only an atheist but also a skeptic (in the sense that, without proof, I suspend my belief/disbelief). This leads to some very interesting conversations with my girlfriend's father, who is a major believer that the Rothschilds are ruling the world, that we are heading for a NWO, that the government was probably behind the inner workings of 9/11, etc...
I have discussed with him on many occasions the science behind whatever claims I had knowledge of (i.e. the 9/11 buildings did not fall at free-fall) and whenever possible, I direct him towards the information that contradicts what he's currently been reading (this forum and Gravy's site are favorites). However, if the content doesn't agree with his preconceived notions he will skim through it, but he won't read it as voraciously as the websites that provide "proof" of the goings on in secret, dark rooms and the people that control the world (once again, the Rothschilds being a favorite).
So here's the meat of the matter: I've told him several times that the area of woo that I deal with is typically religious/anti-scientific ********. Scientology, homeopathy, exorcism, accupuntcure, intelligent design, etc... The things that people willingly waste their money and their lives on. The shady goings ons and conspiracy theories surrounding governments just aren't my thing. He however, can't seem to remember that even though I am a skeptic, I do not keep up with all things woo, and will regularly want to discuss with me things I have no clue about. The latest instance of this is that he sent my girlfriend back to our apartment with this website printed out (http://www.serendipity.li/jsmill/us_corporation.htm) and has "challenged" me to research it and try to remain skeptical/come up with evidence that contradicts what the article says.
Thus I turn to you, dear JREF'ers. I know several of you specialize in this particular type of woo and I would request your help in meeting this "challenge". It would be greatly appreciated if those of you with knowledge refuting or even confirming these claims could help me out with a subject I know virtually nothing about and havn't the first clue where to start with research.
One other thing. My girlfriend's father and I get along fantastically and I would appreciate if there were no name calling and/or slander directed his way for his particular beliefs. He is a man of upstanding moral character, a great father, and one of the people I know I can trust with my personal secrets. I still have yet to actually come out to my own family in regards to my atheism. So seriously, please refrain from insulting him.
