I have to investigate a "haunted" hotel

How do you get video of "Things that go Bump in the Night"? :p

Just kidding. Although it will be interesting if you get video of anything other than, say, an air conditioning compressor acting up.

Bump.

So, we stopped using the hotel because the elevators rarely functioned and our employees didn't like using the freight elevator. Also, someone gave us a better rate. I didn't notice any paranormal activity while I was there and the tape didn't show anything. The smoke alarm did give off an unusual chirp every few minutes to indicate it was low on battery power, but that was easily fixed.

I now have a new winner for "dumbest complaint I ever heard" award.

"The guy at the front desk had only one tooth."

Part of my current day job is investigating complaints about hotels that our employees stay in. Usually, it involves noise, bad food, pests (insect and rodent) and cleanliness. Recently I got a complaint about a hotel in Spokane, WA that stated that the place was "haunted, like something out of a horror movie." When I e-mailed the person who complained for further clarification (was it a noise or the AC making it too cold), she wrote back that it gave off "a bad vibe" and made her feel "uneasy." Looking through our records, this person has never complained before about a hotel, so there is no history of such complaints. It is also the only complaint of this nature to be made about this hotel (there are others from a while ago about elevator/lift trouble). I still have to call the hotel and inquire about it and possibly go there to experience it for myself (unlikely after one complaint, but not unprecidented), then write a report.

As long as it's not room 1408.

I understand your reference to the Stephen King short story. I feel compelled to recommend a non-fiction book by King called On Writing.

No matter what you feel about Stephen King's books this book is a treasure. Stephen King may not be able to make you a modern day Charles Dickens (that's the person I wish I could be) by reading his book about writing -- but it is brilliant. If you want to be entertained while learning read this book. The reason I mentioned this in this thread is because he was writing the short story about room 1408 while writing this book and he used this short story he was presently writing as an example of how he edited his work.

BTW when I went to college at Minnesota State University/Mankato I lived in the Crawford dorms for 2 of my three years there. After a couple of months I was in a local bookstore and saw a book about Minnesota hauntings, and read that the wing of Crawford I lived in was reported to be haunted. There were supposedly strange sounds in the night and things missing from the supply closets. The students had blamed it on spirits.

That actually was one of the factors that lead me to become more of a skeptic about such things.
