Sir, it's a pleasure to be in your company as a non-believer, and thank you for letting it be known. I am a sailor in the US Navy, a hospital corpsman stationed in Spain. I've been an atheist for a number of years, and joined the armed forces to serve my country, despite the chagrin I have of our president. Being open about my atheism, I am no stranger to the comments I am sure you have dealt with plenty more. I did not know who you were until this morning, when reading about this news.
Now knowing that at least one senator is a non-theist, I am proud, in a way, and I feel that I should tell you that I am a writer of philosophic essays, and prose, and have been publishing for some time, receiving money from publishers. I want to tell you that because after reading about you I think I admire you, and I want to present this admiration to you by showing that I aspire to impact the world as well. I want to be an intellectual like you sir. Thank you for serving this country.
