Humans can be up to 10% different genetically?

Also reported. I'd rather report uncivil posts by you than exchange insults or ad hominems.

you reported me saying that maybe you should be less thin skinned?

wow.......

Are you going to report this post too? :D

I have to agree with this. I conduct "biomedical research" and by all accounts could be considered a biomedical engineer as much as a chemical engineer. But I have NO CLUE about the proper classification of species. Just not something I ever had to do.

But it is good to have those who are knowledgable about this keep those of us who aren't in line. But please, be gentle.:o :)

Good point fuelair and joobz.

David1001,
I have run across numerous postings of yours that you seem to feel violate the "Rules." Like the above fellow, I also think you are overreacting. After reviewing the rules and examples, I don't see any violations here.

Please bring them to my attention, and I'll make a stronger effort not to engage in that type of behavior. I'm choosing to report posts that are attacks or ad hominems rather than to respond to them in kind, which I think just becomes a race to the bottom.

...

As for the ad hominem you ended with, rather than racing you to the bottom with personal attacks, I'm reporting your post.

Andyandy's ad hom:"for a guy who purports to have a bio-medical degree you seem a little rusty on your biological classifications....."

That sounds like an observation rather than an ad hom, Dave. I don't know whether it is or isn't a valid observation but I don't think an invalid observation amounts to name calling if done in good faith.

[...gets out of the way before being dragged into dispute for butting in]

They were neither insults nor ad hominems, and you are clearly overreacting.

Go ahead and report that one, too. Nobody will care, except maybe the mods getting annoyed by your zeal.

Many insults, attacks, and ad hominems can be framed as an invalid observation done in good faith. The least mature response on my end would be to respond with an "invalid observation done in good faith" directed at andyandy. But in my opinion, that would start a race to the bottom of exchanging negative characterizations that would add little value to the thread. So, I'd rather report these attacks (or statements that may have plausible deniablity as being being anything other than invalid observations done in good faith) than to respond in kind.

It's not that I'm overreacting, it's that I'm choosing to report AndyAndy's comments rather than to respond with similiar ones directed at him. If the moderators tell me it's inappropriate to report AndyAndy's comments when he voices doubt about my puported educational background or calls me thin-skinned, then I'll begin responding to him tit-for-tat.

Or you could just ignore ad homs and minor insults, or simply point out that that's what they are and leave it at that. I think the option "report or respond in kind" is a false dichotomy.

I never claimed reporting these type comments or responding tit-for-tat were the only two options. I'm claiming that I'm electing to report the comments rather to either ignore them or point them out to be ad homs and minor insults. If the moderators let me know that they prefer I not report these type comments, then I'll take them to be acceptable board behavior and elect to respond tit-for-tat rather than either ignore the comments or point them out to be ad homs and minor insults.

Duly noted. I'll shift strategy by responding to him with an equal level of rudeness in the future.
