HRC: "No Woman is Illegal."

From Las Vegas.

Clinton and her busload of traveling press moved from there to the popular local Mexican restaurant Lindo Michoacan, where a "roundtable" that was actually square passed a microphone around to tell her people's concerns about the mortgage crisis and foreclosures. She took notes and munched on tortilla chips.

In broken English, one woman told Clinton how she wasn't making money as a broker anymore.

"I have no income at all," she said. "So how will I survive?"

Choking up with emotion, the woman said, "In my neighborhood, there are brand-new homes, but the value is nothing. I'm glad you are here so I can tell you, because you're going to be the president, I know."

A man shouted through an opening in the wall that his wife was illegal.

"No woman is illegal," Clinton said, to cheers.
Do what, now?

And HRC meant, "No woman is off-limits"?

(Insert intern joke here.)

I suggest that for the next T.A.M. Randi simply buys that whole neighborhood where new houses cost nothing, and eliminate those expensive hotels from the cost equation.

Okay, seriously, now, I see that as a potential major shoe-in-mouth moment. Guy yells at her that his wife is illegal (presumably an illegal alien) and her response is that "No woman is illegal." If I were one of her opponents, I'd be asking if that's what she really believes. She (and, to be fair, the other Dems) have been dancing around the illegal aliens issue because they know they can't afford to alienate large numbers of Hispanic voters, but know that there are a lot of people - again, to be fair, including Hispanics - who see illegal aliens in the U.S. as a serious problem.

And if Obama doesn't ask her that, for fear of having the issue turned on him, you can be sure the Repubs are sharpening their rhetorical knives on this one.

If I were her, I would respond, "You'll have to clarify what you mean. What he said was an incomplete thought. My response was a joke."

Yes, I remember how they took Kerry's "botched joke" out of context, too.

Better than "iron my shirt!" I suppose.

I am unclear exactly what the shouting man meant. Is his wife 12, and therefore too young to be his legal wife? Is the man a Mormon, and he was speaking of his spare wife? Did he buy her on the black market and did not have a proper EULA or a registered serial number?

Is it illegal in Nevada to be a woman? :faint:
