As a specimen, the life can be identified as a 'self' just as you and i can identify we are a single that controls the body (our mass) to action. "WE" can choice our cause (purpose/intent).

But, to comprehend "the life" within an environment, in reality, there is no isolation, as we must eat, poop, breath and procreate.... 'to live'. (maintain the processes of life)

We all percieve this existance from a single view point of an individual. Is concern for our own well being and continued existance a form of selfishness?

A double edged sword.

Empathy for 'other' is what a soldier dies for, the cause or purpose of that death (sacrafice) should be coherant to the total. Just like, of cancer, before cutting off a breast, there is an understanding as to why.

What about this type of selfishness? Is this the cancer you speak of?

Most any system within the universe can be addressed by comprehending 'life'.

Whether it is medical or human via perspective, the life of the matter is relative.

It is why, i find that even good and bad can be grounded to nature.

Or is the selfishness you are talking about the sociopathalogical type? That others do not exist or are mere objects to use and derive pleasure from.
