How many candidates have YOU got?

We've got ten:

I suspect that "Taxdodger General" Mr Robinson will be returned without much trouble.

My BNP candidate, Mr Sheppard, is worthy of note.

He stood in 2001 but not 2005.

That's 'cos in 2005 he was in prison for shooting somebody.

My Lib Dem candidate (Ed Fordham) just sent me a hand-written (yes I looked close) letter.

He's probably going to win, but he's really pushing the boat out on that one. How long has he been working on these letters?

My mother and I have both had apparently hand-written letters from David Mundell - different productions, with hers being targeted early, as a postal voter. They really did look very convincing, but on very close inspection they weren't hand-written. The salutation "Dear Local Resident" was a slight giveaway as well.

The other thing that occurs to me is that automatic signature-writing machines exist, to append a real ink signature to appropriate documents. I wonder just how long a chunk of text these things can cope with?

Then again, in 1994, when I showed up at Peterhead to help with the Euro-elections, the first think I saw was a blonde girl sitting at a table with a pile of "new voter" letters to go to the 18-year-olds. She was signing each one by hand, "Allan". She looked up and said, well at least I don't have to sign my own name (which was Christina), it would take twice as long.

Even if the pen was held by a warm breathing person, you don't konw who it was unless you already have certified copies of the candidate's handwriting.

Rolfe.

Seven, including this complete loon from the Christian Democrats:

"when schoolboys are taught that homosex is OK for them, then many children are going to exhibit anti-social and criminal behaviour"

The whole flier is almost beyond parody:

Priceless....

Just checked, he got 61 votes in the last general election....
I had a Democrat candidate for state rep. come to my door shortly before the primary a few months ago. He shook my hand and gave me his flyer. I looked him up and found a Tribune article about him, apparently he authored several how-to books on gay bondage under a pseudonym. An actual sado-masochist politician... but I couldn't vote for him because he favored raising taxes and bloating the Illinois budget further.

So I voted for his opponent, even though she's my alderman's daughter and the sister of Blago's wife Patti and I hate political nepotism. She made waves last week when she anounced in the legislature that she was marrying her gay lover in Iowa since Illinois won't allow it.

So that's my local political scene.

I made a mistake, turns out that the English Democrats are NOT a fascist group.

They're a federalist conservative group of lunatics, but they aren't fascists.

A friend of mine will be voting English Democrats.

Mostly because he likes the name. (I'm not joking.)

He once asked me why the SNP don't get called racists, despite having a similar name to the BNP. (Again, I'm not joking.)

He's not the fizziest bottle of Coke on the shelf.

We've only got five. The two front runners are Main (Tory) and Walkington (Lib Dem), however Anne Main was rather heavily involved in the recent expenses scandal so may well be on her way out.

Ah, my home turf. I'll be watching that one with interest.

At the moment I'm down in Coventry North West, and strangely enough it seems once again I'm not the only one...

I hadn't heard that about Sheppard. Then again, I haven't been paying much attention to the BNP leaflets posted through my door!

I've got this Tamsin Omond running in my constituency, the lady who scaled the commons and is the 'face' of the enviromental movement. This article about her I found amusing:

http://thethirdestate.net/2010/02/t...nda-jackson-in-latest-act-of-epic-narcissism/
“Not all companies get the urgency of climate change yet but their customers have more power than they think. Last week, I left the outer packaging of my shopping on the till at Tesco.” – Tamsin Omond demonstrating her commitment to environmentalism by leaving an underpaid cashier to clear up her mess.

Check out her party, the most vague in existence:

I've been lied to!

When I got to the polling station (which took longer than expected, as I took a wrong turning on the way. As I did last time. And the time before.), there were only 9 candidates on the ballot paper. Oh, the disappointment!

Seven Predicted to be an easy Lib Dem snatch from Labour (I'm likely to help that happen)

Well, the predictions were wrong, though I'm not sure who was actually predicting that apart from Liberal Democrat activists.... In any event, Labour held on to the seat and, in fact, increased their majority from around 400 to nearly 4000.

The Christian Democrat "when schoolboys are taught that homosex is OK for them, then many children are going to exhibit anti-social and criminal behaviour" loon got 260 votes....

looks like he mobilised the antihomosex crowd.....
