As Atheism becomes more common the people who class themselves as atheists will come from all parts of society (except maybe church), and the people who make such generalised statements as the one made to the OP above are just daft. They are making a presumption that all atheists must share the same views, I have lots of atheist friends and we rarely agree on anything except a disbelief in the absurd.
I suspect the same person would say all Muslims are bad because they don't like Islam. Such sweeping generalisations do nothing other than make the speaker sound pompous, and have a negative impact on anything atheists are fighting for, as they straight away alienate a large section of people.
You will have people of most persuasions in most groups and whilst the argument for atheism is quite often based on historical and philosophical questions, as well as loads of scientific evidence, the only way to make any significant change is with numbers. Therefore, if someone is considered below average intelligence, or makes career choices that someone else might consider inappropriate or none of the above, all should be welcome'd and encouraged equally.
