How late is TOO late for TAM?

When I first heard about TAM (I think it was TAM 3), I was hesitant. But the more I read about each TAM event, the more intrigued I became. So I thought (back in the summer, I think it was), maybe I'll try it next time. Well, due to my incredible powers of procrastination, "next time" is next month. A little late in the game, I know. But...

Is there a cutoff point for registration? And what about reserving a room? How long until I'd be SOL? I assume getting a flight is reasonably trivial (I just booked my Christmas vacation flights for dirt cheap - I only had to be "flexible" about one day).

Also, part of the reason I am asking is I am trying to convince myself to go. The more I read about the activities, speakers, and the interesting/smart/funny people of the forum who will be in attendance, the more I want to go (and, yes, I'll admit it; the prospect of meeting some of the hot skepchicks [&/or Terry ;)] in person only sweetens the deal). But I am hesitant - I've never done any "online meet-up" type activity before, and am a bit nervous. Very unlike me, but, there it is.

What? You don't like the guy with the huge scar on his back in the skepdude calendar!?

Bah! BAH I SAY!

Well, stop procrastinating dude. TAM is truly AMAZING and hanging out with so many skeptics is a blast. You won't regret it.

Since I see you are on LI (so am I) I can tell you that JetBlue is running special flight deals right now to Vegas, so book TAM and your flight NOW!!!! Roomwise you can probably find someone to room with by posting on the roomies thread.

Really, do it :D

Yes--always frolicsome fun amongst one's "peeps".

The only complaint I've heard (and it wasn't from me) is that it gets more crowded each year lessening the intimacy. For me, it's my favorite part of the year!

The short answer is Sunday morning the 21st. The actual cut off times are listed on the TAM etc. webpage. Registration $25 more since it's past Nov. 30th for instance, you can register when you show up.

The short answer is Just Go. The long answer is hop to it, book your flight/hotel and register, then Just Go. Bring a camera and a change of underwear (you'll thank me afterwards).

Well, the registration cutoff is when they run out of space, which I haven't heard happening yet, but the sooner the better. The hotel is holding the current rates for the JREF until 27 Dec 06, if you need a deadline to get yourself moving...

ObscurereferenceMan, I am a loner in the greater part of my life and a party-pooper of no little distinction. But I defy anyone not to have a great time at a TAM. There is a wide variety of people of all shapes and temperments, and while some of the 'veterans' may know their way around slightly better, I don't believe anyone was ever excluded if they wanted to join in and I have seldom met a more congenial bunch of folks that the Forumites (oh, I am sure there were some personality clashes, but nothing one would notice)

Come. Even if you don't say a single word, come along. It will be fun.

I showed up at the cruise without knowing a single person, and had a great time and met cool people

You're like one of those people who used to ask me ten years ago: Gee, should I get another megabyte for my computer?

My response: My consulting fee to answer the question will cost you more than the memory.

Does that make sense? No? Summary: See you at TAM, ObscureReferenceMan!

How to calculate your computer consultancy fees:

Pick an amount that make you feel ashamed of yourself.

Multiply it with two.

I hear this makes people who live by the motto "you get what you pay for" very happy indeed. (I worked for a lawyer once--and the amount demanded for pain and suffering is figured using a similar type formula--)
