How does a theist decide which beliefs to have?

It is a theory based on archeologial excavations and findings. It does not prove that there is a link to an ape-man to human. The Theeory of Evolution is just that, a theory.
"Just a Theory".

Yes. Evolution is a theory. That's one of its strongest points, not its weakest. It's a theory because we have the highest possible level of confidence in it.

Evolution is both a fact and a theory. It is an undisputed fact that populations of organisms change over time. The theory of evolution describes the manner in which this occurs.

Is the link between apes and humans "proven"? Technically, no. But it is confirmed to such a degree that we can have confidence that such a link exists.

Proof is for mathematics and alcohol.

Anyway, how did we get onto evolution? I thought we were talking about how people gain their particular theistic belief rather than any other theistic belief.

I'll expand on arthwollipot's point.

it's not just a theory
It's a THEORY. A (non-mathematically pure) concept can't go anywhere higher than theory.

And again for emphasis, atheism has no tenants and no beliefs other than the disbelief of the God claim. So it's pretty pointless to argue what we believe. I'm sure you could find atheists who agreed with you about evolution, that doesn't make any sort of "magic man done it" claim any more correct.

The above is the reason we 'believe' in evolution. What Mubarak fails to explain is why he choses to disbelieve in evolution and instead put faith in an ancient legend.

Oh, BTW, thank you Mubarak for participating at all. Seems any other resident theists didn't even bother to do that.

.. But you must be realizing that you are failing to answer the question.

I second that sentiment. I also think it's fantastic that it's someone of the Islamic faith, as opposed to the ubiquitous Christians. I've chatted with plenty of Christians, and I once was one myself, so I like to think I've got a reasonable handle on Christian thought. But I've had very little opportunity to discuss religion with people of other faiths. Thank you very much Mubarak for providing me with that opportunity.

Thanks for your response. May I point out another "theory"?

Just like evolution, gravitation is a theory. Just like evolution, gravity isn't mentioned in your holy texts. Just like evolution, the concept of gravity is supported by a huge body of evidence that defies religious tradition.

Do you worry about falling off the earth? Or does a deity continually act to keep you on the ground?
