Well, considering that the Nazi's were a blip on history's radar and they were pretty much wiped our for their hate, I'd say it didn't work out too well for them.

There are still lots of people that teach their children that Jewish people are evil, that black people are primitive criminals, that white people are crazy greedy cheaters, etc., and you generally don't have to look too far in any direction to see the impacts of such parental hate mongering. And btw, you seem to be the only person talking about NAZIs, I didn't see anything in Thaiboxerken's post that even alluded to NAZIs, unless you are under the impression that the only people who have ever expressed anti-Semitism were the NAZIs?

Regardless, I would not seek to remove the parent's ability and right to teach their children what they want them to understand about the world. That said, public schools are not the appropriate tool to teach particular religious beliefs and understandings.

I think part of the problem is thinking of them as "our" public schools, instead of "their" public schools. You live in Texas, have at it. It's your state, your government, your public schools. Get in there and fight for something better. You live anywhere else, find something closer to home to fight for. Try to avoid finding excuses to intrude the federal government into other people's lives.

Texas is a problem because the publishers of text books kiss fundy asses so as not to lose that state's business. Seems Texas is always ordering new text books to meet the needs of whatever woo or revisionist history is in vogue on a given day. This makes it hard for the less superstitious states to obtain reliable text books.
