Also, as a former hedgehog owner, I have to say that when they're not frightened, a hedgie's quills are not much of a danger--they just lie flat, like hair (which of course they taxonomically are). You can even pet your little dude gently on the quills...it's only when the hedgehog is frightened that you risk getting stuck. Porcupine quills are much longer, and are barbed, so they'd be more dangerous.
