How do Crystals "work"?

Does your nose hurt when you (or someone else) holds a finger a couple of inches in front of it? Mine does, like an unbearable tickle. Same thing with a lot of people I've asked. When I was really young I used to think I could detect things with it and used to walk around with my eyes shut clumping painfully into walls trying to "hone" my mystical talent.

One of my nasty tricks I used to play on my brother was to pin him down with my legs, arms locked, and nearly scratch his nose while telling him how itchy it was. It was torture; his nose got so itchy that when I let him up he would spend the next five minutes rubbing it.

Suggestion is a powerful tool.

And all I ever did was tell my little brother he was adopted, but Mom and Dad didn't want me to tell him and they would deny it to protect him. This would keep him off me for a few minutes. That, and I used to make up disturbing things like "Santa's elves are kidnapped children who didn't leave him cookies," and "the Tooth Fairy collects your teeth because she is building a Frankenstein with a giant mouth for eating people." Anything to get him to run back screaming to my mother so I could ditch him.

You know something... it just plain SUCKS to be wicked and evil and have the great misfortune to be an only child...
