How Big is the Universe

This "how vast is the Universe" sounds a bit too much like shopping for something to be awed about, a la the god-bothers. We don't need to go there, do we?
I don't know, I think for some of us we really were awed by the size of the universe, or perhaps at least of some parts of it, and that awe has made us interested in talking about it. It's not like we're lacking in something amazing and going looking for it, we just think it's pretty damn amazing.

If you've seen one universe, you've seen them all.

Not a fan of multiverse ideas? :boxedin:

It has occurred to me that in order to measure something, one always compares it to something else. Think a foot or the distance from the earth to the sun or the distance light travels in a year or whatever.

If we're free to stipulate the unit, how about defining the size of the universe as 1 "universe-diameter"?

Convenient in that from the instant of Big Bang it's remained constant!

On the other hand, not sure how useful that would be.
