House Impeachment Inquiry

Moscow Mitch has been going on about it too suggesting that those Democrat Senators who are running for the Democratic Nomination would not be wanting to be sitting in silence day after day after day stuck in the Senate when they really want to be out campaigning.+

It's telling that he apparently can't conceive of someone being willing to actually do their job as a Senator, even if that conflicts with their other interests.

I would hope that our dear Chief Justice Roberts will remember that history and the world are watching, and not preside over this as if he were Dread Pirate Roberts.

Roberts has pushed backed on Trump when he threatened judicial independence before. Roberts is likely to be a fair and impartial jurist. If he was going to be a rubber stamp for Trump, he would have by now.

you are giving him way, way too much credit.

By which he means that Senate Republicans will not vote to find him guilty regardless of the evidence. If tomorrow Trump admitted to linking the aid to investigating Biden, they will simply deny it constitutes wrong doing as they have so many times before.

That's always been a foregone conclusion. No one really expects the Trumptrash in the Senate to do their duty to their country. This is all about laying out Trump's crimes for the voters. It will be a win if a simple majority votes for conviction. That will weaken Trump going into the election. It also adds to Trump fatigue. The more people get tired of this nonsense the fewer votes he gets.

I prefer Trump be voted out of office. We need to redeem the "sin" of Trump's election.

Roberts has blocked Trump from The Bench and made public statements pushing back on Trump's assaults on the judiciary. What makes you think he's going to pick now to become a Trump toady?

he has also given card-blanche for GOP gerrymandering without limits.

Because "Put on a big show of opposing Trump right up until the point it actually matters" is what Republicans scream when they orgasm at this point.

Trump Tweets

NEW YORK POST EDITORIAL. “Worse Than Pointless. All those hours of televised testimony plainly failed on their announced goal: to change American’s minds. Part of the problem is that Democrats already leaked the best evidence they had. More important, NOT ONE WITNESS OFFERED.....

....ANY DIRECT EVIDENCE THAT PRESIDENT TRUMP DID ANYTHING IMPEACHABLE. No one heard him order a quid pro quo. No one offered a convincing reason why Trump’s interest in having Ukraine probe potential cortuption warrants Impeachment. “I want no Quid Pro Quo” Ambassador....

....Sondland said Trump told him. None of this will move the needle for anyone. And now Dems in Swing Districts head home for Thanksgiving to hear from voters. Pelosi & Co. are putting on a show to appease the Democratic base instead of doing the work ALL Americans need done.”

I've been thinking about this the last couple of days. But I think the House shouldn't speed Articles of Impeachment to the Senate. Not just yet. Clearly witnesses have implicated that Pompeo, Mulvaney, Perry and Pence were directly involved in the Ukrainian bribery solicitation. And these individuals refuse to comply with subpoenas to appear or produce documents relevant.

The House need to present somehow to the American people the rampant obstruction of justice and why that is just as important and just as damning as the bribery.

Unfortunately, the average American has the attention span of... Oh look, a squirrel!

Two months since the release of the Transcript and the Complaint, two weeks for the Inquiry -
the Do Nothing Democrats sure get a lot done quickly.

Yeah there going full speed toward the... absolutely nothing that is going to happen when they hand it over to Senate.

There's a difference between doing something and doing something.

There's no actual political or legal end to this that's going to effect Trump and it's not hurting his popularity.

Maybe they should of listened when everybody who wasn't a Lame Duck Democrat with nothing to lose from the majority of street level random nobodies to most of their own party said "We don't want an impeachment and it's not going to change our mind."

Note: I've already got the "Oh no you don't understand this is totally building to something..." speech memorized, so nobody bother with it.

I don't know how you can know this. I'm not saying you're wrong, but we don't know the effect.

two sides of the coin: Impeachment might not convince Trump voters to disavow him, but maybe some will just stay home come 2020.
And the process will energize Democrat supporters, both for the Presidential election and for Congress.

This is what I'm hoping happens. Even though some Democrats think the impeachment hearings are a waste of time because they believe the Senate will never convict (and I agree with the latter), perhaps they will encourage those Dems who did not vote in 2016 to do so in 2020. Perhaps they will finally recognize the consequences of their apathy.

It saddens and infuriates me when I hear people say they don't even bother to watch the hearings because nothing will change their minds about Trump. They don't even want to hear the evidence against him in order to make an informed choice. Instead, they wrap themselves in the comfort of willful ignorance so they don't have to face an ugly truth; the man they voted for abused his office and is a lying POS.

To not impeach for something as egregious as this--far eclipsing Tricky Dick's foibles--would be tantamount to admitting to history that the rule of law is now dead. If there is any desire to hang onto democracy, this must be done. Even if it is a certainty known beforehand that no conviction would obtain.

It's already bad enough what's going down in US politics. Throwing up one's collective hands in the name of political expediency only gives license to those who would use the precedent ever after, and embolden the US's enemies. There are things *worth* fighting for, even when the odds are against. Not following through now would to some extent warrant for the Democrats the moniker, "Do Nothing Dems."

That's all well and good but if the Senate allows him to be the corrupt POTUS he is, that leaves him a year to do as he pleases because you know it will give him a license to steal and cheat more.
