House Impeachment Inquiry

If you want your lawyer to defend you and not Trump, you better not pick a Republican - a lesson Flynn is learning the painful way.

I agree that if this were a prizefight, they'd stop it. Jordan, Radcliffe, Nunes et al. are getting hammered!

This isn't just an ordinary, seldom seen proper noun. It's the name of the US Representative of the 4th District of Texas at the center of the impeachment hearings. To think you have not seen the printed name Ratcliffe dozens of times by today is unrealistic. That you still can't spell it correctly is just plain weird. And rather concerning.

Well done. Making sure the important things are not forgotten. I am sure stacyhs will appreciate your concern.

I haven't really been following the whole impeachment thing, as I always assumed the republicans will just block it when it has to be agreed by them, and it won't happen.

But if I ask what is probably a stupid question making me sound like an idiot, I have never understood with this..

Why would Ukraine be able to investigate Joe Biden better than anyone else enough for Trump to blackmail them into doing it?

He obviously did it, but has Biden got a specific link to the Ukraine they have more access if there was dodgy stuff or something?

A forum member misspelling the name of a Republican Member of Congress = Concerning
A President calling members of Congress Names = Perfectly fine
A President trying to get a foreign Government to investigate his political rivals = I see nothing.

The investigation was supposed to link Biden through his son to Burisma's owner, who is been involved in a number of very shady dealings. It would also have been a way to have it come out that Trump could have claimed was nothing to do with him, it was the Ukrainians investigation corruption in their own backyard

Here we go ... Ambassador to say quid pro quo came from Giuliani at 'express direction of the President'

"Sondland? Giuliani? Who are they? I've never heard of them."

And here Sondland donated a million to Trump's personal inaugural fund and he appointed him EU ambassador, but Trump says he barely knows him.

Of course he didn't know him well enough to be straight with him. He hinted at what he wanted then lied he didn't want a quid pro quo.

Talk about knowing it was illegal.

It doesn't seem as if Trump really cared if Ukraine investigated Joe Biden. Only that they told the world that they were investigating Joe Biden and his son Hunter. The argument was that Biden had corruptly aranged his son's lucrative position with the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma and that he influenced the sacking of a Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating Burisma. But the facts seem to point to a conclusion that in fact is the opposite.

I see I was ninja'd by a phantom.

Doesn't matter. They have smeared Biden successfully.

I see I was ninja'd by a phantom.

You filled in some of the details that I didn't cause I had to nip out the door.

I really would note that this has actually been a masterful plot.

First you get your point man to work with some dodgy characters to smear the current Ambassador, even paying a US Senator to lobby against her for you, then you can recall her on the basis of the smear campaign.

Next, before the new guy is appointed and settled in, and a few other changes of heads is happening, you slip in a ringer with your point guy to start talking about "Investigating Ukrainian Corruption and Barisma" Code words for the Bidens and the 2016 conspiracy theory. Thus anyone else involved with the plot thinks that you are following the US anti-corruption policy and won't object.

Now you have your guys in place, have meetings with the mark where it's heavily suggested that for them to get the thing that they want, a meeting at the Whitehouse, they have to play ball with Investigations.

Make sure to have your other officials stress the idea of Corruption Investigations without telling them what they phase is meaning to the other players.

Get the Ukrainian President prepared, then have a phone call where a favour is asked, you know, you really should want to do this for us, investigate Biden and 2016 because we've done so much for you, and it hasn't been reciprocated.

Finally sit on the money that was supposed to be going to them until they do what you want.

And then after all that careful planning, just two days before total and complete success where the President of Ukraine was to say they were investigating Burisma and the Bidens and 2016 interference, those meddling Whistleblowers and their dog blew the whole thing up...

"And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids"

I think the phone call by Trump was necessary because Zelensky was getting mixed signals from the Diplomatic Corps and the Three Amigos and needed Trump to say that what Rudy says is what counts.
Otherwise, Trump would have pretended to be unaware of the whole effort and act surprised that Ukraine was announcing the investigation.
If it wasn't for Zelensky's and the Whistleblower's moral backbone, this would have worked out great for Trump.

Are you really comparing my misspelling RaTcliffe, whom I never heard of until recently, with Trump not knowing how to spell the name of the Ukrainian president? A man he's attempted to bribe into helping him gain info on a political rival which is the core of the impeachment hearings? I tell ya what, Bogative, when RaTcliffe becomes as critical in my life as Zelensky is in Trump's right now, then you might be able to draw a comparable comparison. But we both know that's not going to happen.

I can't see how it could have ever worked out well. It's just so ham fisted and ugly.

As Skeptic Ginger points out, it already has. Despite no evidence, Joe Biden has been associated with corruption in Ukraine.

Impeachment proceedings will have no effect on support for President Trump, it will remain at 40-42%, enough for re-election so long as GOP voter suppression efforts are successful.

Of course the actual investigation didn't matter. You don't need facts to smear someone. If anything the investigation would be a detriment to Trump because it would show what we already know, the prosecutor Biden got fired was not investigating Hunter B or Burisma.
