Cont: House Impeachment Inquiry - part 2

No it's not.
I think it is, and is not, depending on how you frame it. It's clear enough, I think, that the impeachment of Clinton was a foolish, trivial, politically motivated farce. But it is also true that technically he was not impeached for the blowjob but for perjury, and that's true even if you disapprove of the whole process that led to the presumed perjury in the first place, and even if you consider it a setup. As mentioned above, reasons notwithstanding, perjury is a pretty specific crime.

Okay so my question remains. How much damage does Trump get to do to the country because Clinton got away with lying about getting a blowjob?

Here's an idea. Maybe the literal future of our country is a little more important then political tit for tat.

Clinton's crime had little to do with tits or tats.

I'd nominate this but I'm too sad.

Enh. President Clinton got away with perjury, and the country didn't fall apart. I don't see the country falling apart if President Trump also gets away with perjury.

But if that slippery slope is such a serious concern for you, maybe you should have thought things through before letting President Clinton get away with perjury.

And there it is. The exact mentality that is going to make Rome fall.

Ken Starr says Piglosi's abuse of power by seizing control of the House Judiciary Committee and not allowing a robust debate may very well convince The Turtle to just hold a vote to dismiss.

If the Democrats had been smarter, they'd have played a montage of Trump admitting to crimes in the hearing.

Which part of which House resolution on the impeachment process that wasn't equivalent to previous impeachment inquiries is the one that's not allowing a robust debate?

Piglosi...that's about as much as I would expect in all honesty. Why is it the right always has to compare women to animals? Hildabeast, Piglosi, etc.? This says way more about the people that use it than it does about their targets. It's childish, lame, and I don't even know what it's trying to get at. I'd ask for an explanation but it would probably be witty as the name.

False equivalency. The Trump impeachment is not about perjury though, is it? It's about abuse of power, obstruction, and bribing a foreign government into interfering with a presidential election.

That depends (or should depend) upon whether Trump's answers to Mueller's interrogatories were knowingly false.

ETA: I don't actually expect lying to the investigators will be included in the final articles of impeachment, though it may well should be.

ETA2: Obstruction of the Russia investigation in various other ways will likely be an article unto itself.

ETA3: Has anyone tried to list out the probable articles yet?

But, as far as we know, that has not been mentioned as being included in the articles of impeachment. Frankly, I doubt it will be.

Maybe if you didn't have partisan blinders on you would realize what Trump has done is way worse than what Clinton ever did.

Maybe you should have thought things through before submitting an absurd analogy.

Can you say "false equivalence". Clinton perjured himself about an irrelevant and personal event.

In contrast, Donald Trump BRIBED a foreign power to interfere in the upcoming election and followed it up by Obstructing Justice and Obstructing Congress by instructing government officials not to cooperate with the investigation.

  • Is bribery or the solicitation of bribery ok with you?
  • Do you believe in check and balances ?
  • Do you believe in fair elections?
  • Is the power of the President unlimited?
  • Is it ok for the President to leverage the power of his office for help from foreign powers win reelection?

Come on Damion, Cherry picking out Trump's additional perjury potential is a dismissive segue.

It wouldn't matter if it was. Lying about a blow job that wasn't directly related to abuse of power is not IN ANY WAY (unless you count 'can be described in English words') like what Trump is being charged with.
