It's not a strange thing. It's a stupendously bad idea. It defeats the whole purpose of having elected representatives. It's a terrible way to run a democracy.

So does denying Congress information required to do their job. Pick your poison.

Oh, I'll pick "Executive Contesting Legislative Subpoenas" over "Secret Votes in the Senate" every time. Not even a question.

I'm a little worried that you think they're both on the same level, or that the latter is somehow a good remedy for the former.

Poison is poison. The effect is the same.

Oh, good lord. Now McClintock (R, CA) is resorting to the GOP nonsense that the hearings are really all about nullifying the 2016 election. For crap's sake, an impeachment does not nullify an election.

ETA: Even IF that were true, the Dems did not force Trump to do what he did. They did not force Trump to ask Zelensky for "a favor". They did not force him it hold up the military aid. Trump did that all by his big boy self.

Obviously I disagree. And without dismissing your analogy entirely (though I probably should), I'd like to point out that there are many different kinds of poisons, with a wide variety of effects, some varying effects also by dosage or method of application, and some effects being lethal while others are not.

They're pandering to the morons who thought proving President Obama wasn't a citizen would put McCain in the White House, aren't they?

The entire concept of checks and balances is "going against" the election officials and trying to "undo the election" by this logic.

The voters elected Congress as much as the elected the President.

Retorting everything with "Well he got elected" is incorrect.

You can be elected, even removing the shadiness of the election, and still do things wrong that require you to be dealt with.

But that isn't as scary as suggesting a Democrat coup putting "Killary" in office. Who cares how the government actually works?

Laugh now Librul. You won't be laughing when Empress for Life Greta Thunburg has us all working as slaves in the solar and wind mines. (That's how solar and wind power work, right?)

Fascinating how McConnell referred to the House Impeachment hearings as a "trial".

Has this man NEVER read the Constitution??

And now they are arguing that its not Obstruction to ban all witnesses and all documents.

The GOP really has lost its mind and all sense of country.

Republicans now arguing Trump should not be impeached, because he has lowered unemployment and passed tax cuts.

:jaw-dropp

Great. Then when a Dem president totally refuses to comply with GOP controlled House subpoenas, they won't cry "Obstruction!". Who am I kidding? You know damned good and well they will.

The GOP sees absolutely nothing but defending Dear Leader against the Evil Dems no matter what he does.

Hitler was fantastic for the German economy, too. He had the autobahn built, ordered the building of the Volkswagen (People's car), wages rose, and a 30% unemployment rate was lowered to almost zero. That, of course, totally made up for everything else he did.

It’s odd. The one type of totalitarianism I never expected from the American right was a slavish imitation of North Korean Juche

He also relaxed gun laws, that explains it

I can’t believe I’m hearing the Repubs tell so many lies that they must know are lies. They are corrupt and have been corrupted in deference to their Dear Leader. That the Dems may not be angels or blameless in every regard changes none of that.
