horrifying attack on Jussie Smollett

While looking for Smollett news I found another hoax attack in Chicago.

I think I read somewhere that his next court date was March 14th. Probably won't be much news until then.

Why would someone tell the police they'd been stabbed, if they hadn't?

There seem to be two main categories of reasons for making a false police report.

First is attention-seeking.
Second is, to cover something else up.

Tawana Brawley at the age of 15 made up an elaborate hate crime possibly to avoid being punished by her mother and stepfather, although maybe it was also for attention seeking.

Much of the grand jury evidence pointed to a possible motive for Brawley's falsifying the incident: trying to avoid violent punishment from her mother and her stepfather, Ralph King. Witnesses testified that Glenda Brawley had previously beaten her daughter for running away and for spending nights with boys. King had a history of violence that included stabbing his first wife 14 times, later shooting and killing her. There was considerable evidence that King could and would violently attack Brawley: when Brawley had been arrested on a shoplifting charge the previous May, King attempted to beat her for the offense while at the police station.

So it could have all been just to cover up spending time with her boyfriend without her parents' permission.

All I've seen so far is a note that the CPD says he mailed to himself, but that the FBI says they don't know who mailed,

and a check that CPD says was payment for the attack, but that everyone involved agrees was not.

These are problems for the case that this was some sort of setup. That's particularly true for an openly corrupt group like the CPD.

These are problems for the case that this was some sort of setup. That's particularly true for an openly corrupt group like the CPD.

Is there really a plausible alternative explanation though? I'm surprised anyone is still holding out hope.

I agree that the CPD has a troubling history particularly when it comes to covering up crimes or shootings by their own officers. In this case, the CPD was not involved in the attack, so there's no CPD officers to protect.

According to CBS2 Chicago, dozens of workers and nurses at Northwestern Hospital may have been fired for inappropriately accessing Jussie Smollett's medical records. The Empire actor was treated at the medical facility after allegedly being attacked by two men in January.

The employees reportedly gained access to Smollett's medical chart after he had been accused of staging the attack. One of the nurses who was terminated claimed the entire incident was a misunderstanding and simply glanced at the record while looking for another patient's information. Nevertheless, she was fired last week for allegedly viewing the actor's charts. She is appealing the termination and says many other hospital workers may have been let go for the same reason.

What you think the restitution to him should be would be amazing.

Do you think it's just local cops, like 1 or two, or do you think it goes really high up?

How bad were his real injuries? We're they covered up?

Is he being threatened or anything? To not name the officers involved in framing him.

Kinda removes any remaining room for doubt. Smollett himself has yet to admit it, but hard to explain away the fact that the brothers have publicly apologized for their role.

Same folks that thought it was okay to shoot Trayvon Martin for walking home.

You actually believe the payment was really for training?

No one I know believes that.

Everyone I know believes the training story was probably cover to hide the backdated payment for the attack.

Chicago Police open internal investigation into alleged leaks in Jussie Smollett case

Reports of leaks about the Jussie Smollett case have prompted an internal investigation of the Chicago Police Department.

The department told CNN on Thursday that it had opened an investigation into alleged internal leaks.

"I would like to point out that a lot of the information out there was inaccurate and there were numerous agencies involved in this investigation," said Sergeant Rocco Alioto with the Chicago PD Office of Communications. "As a standard procedure when there are allegations of information being leaked, an internal investigation has been opened and we are also looking at our vulnerabilities."....

...."Like any other citizen, Mr. Smollett enjoys the presumption of innocence, particularly when there has been an investigation like this one where information, both true and false, has been repeatedly leaked. Given these circumstances, we intend to conduct a thorough investigation and to mount an aggressive defense," Smollett's attorneys said in February...

We saw leaks that were untrue or contained falsehoods. I mostly recall these being on TMZ and CWB, but maybe even the news guys (Weigel and Elgas). We also saw leaks that were legit.

Guglielmi says no alleged leakers have been identified so far. He says no officers or staff members with the department have been disciplined for releasing information about the case.

What are some of the hallmarks?

Multiplying of entities. The fixing of gaps and inconsistencies in the narrative by adding more conspiracy to it. Rather than simplifying, the theory becomes more and more complicated.

Accusations of shilling. Dissenters are actually in on the conspiracy, paid to debunk the truth seekers.

Anomaly hunting.

Whatever you call that argument, where the alleged conspirators did that bad thing that time, so they must have done this bad thing this time. Operation Northwoods Syndrome?

That last one seems to be the first line of defense, any time there's a hate hoax. "Well hate crimes do happen, so only a racist would doubt this one."

If there were attackers, either they were the brothers currently accused of participating in faking the attack (which they would be innocent of, but guilty of making an actual attack instead); or they were someone else.

If the attackers were someone else, the brothers are innocent of any role in any crime. They could say so, and explain why they happened to be innocently traveling to and from the scene and in communication with Jussie around the time the actual attack occurred. And Jussie could say, "my friends are innocent, it wasn't them; the police are letting the real attackers get away with it." Yet, they haven't.

If the attackers were the brothers, Jussie could explain why he was mistaken about the skin color of the attackers he reported. And why he was in communication with the brothers around the time they attacked him. And perhaps a hint about what beef they might have had with him that motivated them to attack him in the first place, and disguise that attack as a racist hate crime, and then betray him yet again by conspiring with the police to frame him for faking an attack that was actually real. Yet, they haven't.

The nice thing about a conspiracy theory is that you're free to multiply entities to your heart's content, making the narrative more and more complicated as you go.

When you're perpetrating a hoax, though, you quickly reach a point where you can't fix the flaws in your story without creating even more flaws. In the real world, where the police and the press are able to look into the flaws and hold you to account, there comes a point where you and your co-conspirators are best advised to just shut your mouth before you make things even worse.

I think the Smollett Hoax has reached that point.
