horrifying attack on Jussie Smollett

Jussie sees white powder on the outside of the MAGA envelope and tells his boss that they should both put on gloves before opening it.

No Jussie, you don't open it at all and instead immediately call the police.

Why would they flag down a cop on the street instead of calling the police?
Possibly to create an immediate public drama. A phone call might only result in a visit by a detective and then no public drama and not even a news story. The cops aren't obligated to create a press release because of the letter. Jussie needs it to be on the Internet and TV right away.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he was trying to advance the anti-lynching bill but I'd put my dollar down on the motive just being personal publicity.

Q: Why did you guys fly to Nigeria?
A: Jussie had paid us a lot of cash for the hoax and we decided that we would spend it on a trip. We love Nigeria.
Q: Why did you do the attack before going to Nigeria?
A: It either had to happen before our trip or after getting back. We all decided on before.

Q: We noticed that Jussie Smollett's credit card was used to purchase these
tickets ...

or:

Q: We noticed that Jussie sent you 2400.00 on Jan 11th, which is the exact cost of the tickets, which you bought on Jan 12th.

The brothers said that the deal was for Jussie to pay them $4000 for the fake attack. BTW, I don't think it was $4K each but instead in total for them.

But we haven't heard how much Smollett paid them for the letter. That may be because the FBI has not yet picked up the microphone at all. Reports do not specifically say that the $4K included the letter job.

IMO, all payments to the brothers would have been cash handed to them. If the flights were to be given in addition to service payments then Jussie would have handed them the cash needed for the airfares. I speculate this.

Because they were so clever and thought the ruse through so well?

Or both. The anti-lynching bill would surely spotlight the 'attack' as an example of how necessary this legislation was. Guaranteed national publicity

Is there such a mentality? It seems Smollett was believed exactly the same amount as anyone who filed a report with the police. They investigated his claims, tracked down suspects.

Now, if you want to talk about the armchair detective mentality.....

"it seems"?

Forgetting the several democratic candidates for the President of the United States who declared it a hate crime and modern day lynching are we?

Or is that par for the course?

I'm gonna refine this point, because as written the implications are kinda gross, but I do feel there is something there.

Almost any celebrity who was not far or Alt right, not only believed the story at face value, but promoted the person stating it as a hero, without any evidence of the crime.

Important people did this because to question the man publicly would have harmed their image, while blind support cost nothing and improved it.

Will these people suffer for his actions? Likely only from folks who hate them anyway. And likely no one will publicly question them on their actions as that would be seem as racist in and of itself.

Was this a conspiracy to influence elections? **** no. Was it a scary example of how trying to distill equality can cause horrible **** and stops actions? Most certainly.

I will be reminding folks about Kamala Harris' support of this farce. We already have a president that speaks first, without checking facts or thinking.

I'm kind of bummed about Cory Booker lending his support, because I'd been following him since he was mayor of Newark. I was hoping for great things from him, even though I was a Republican back then.

If the licensing rights are still available, I'd like to put together the scooter sponsorship deal for the Netflix movie. Maga Scooters offers a 60 second invisible trial special, or the 29 minute rental that includes a tuna sub.

I was completely floored when Trump himself was one of the celebrities who appeared to accept this at face value early on.

I just watched the entire Good Morning America interview, and he really, really seemed to be lapping up the public attention - crocodile tears and all. He let loose with quite a few whoppers during the interview, but the funniest one was probably saying "Now, I'll never be a person who didn't have this happen to them. Sniff, sniff."

Has Trump ever apologized for taking out that newspaper ad to falsely accuse those five guys of being rapists?

That would be a no. During his campaign, 15 years after the sentences were vacated, he was still maintaining that they were guilty. One of his many conspiracy theory lies.

The letter would have been payed for earlier as a separate attempt at publicity for Jussie. Only after that didn't work was the plan for the "lynching" worked out.
